camera experts come in

I know this has been asked a million times, but what settings do you use to take the pictures with the child and x-mas lights?  i know ISO of 400....is lower better?  what else?  also, what do you do about slow shutter speed and a moving child.

Re: camera experts come in

  • ISO is good.  If you go lower, don't go lower than 200.  If the lights are bright enough, the shutter speed shouldn't be TOO slow.  I didn't really have an issue with mine coming out blurry, but found that white lights were better because they're brighter.  If they're coming out blurry, try turning on a light in the next room or something.  Use a tripod.  If you have a camera where you can play with the settings, if you go to "AV" and set it to the biggest aperture possible (whatever number is lowest), that will allow the maximum amount of light in, which means you can then have the fastest shutter possible given the light you have.  On the AV setting, the camera will automatically decide the shutter speed.  If you don't have that, but have "manual," do what I just said to do with the aperture, but also try out different shutter speeds.  Practice first without DC sitting with the lights.
  • I have a D40, I did auto ISO and no flash setting they came out great. GL
