Babies: 0 - 3 Months

How do you know if you need to switch formula?

This is probably a dumb question, but I started supplementing with formula about a week ago because DD has started to out-eat my supply.  I had a sample of Similac Advance with Early Shield so we just used that.  Her dirty diapers have gone down to only 2-3 a day, and she just seems gassy and uncomfortable sometimes.  How do I know if this is just normal gassiness or if we should try something new?

  • You shouldn't switch from one to another without talking to your Pediatrician.  Because formula is heavier it stays with babies longer than breast milk which could be the reason for fewer bowel movements.

  • I started supplementing and the same thing happened. I did end up switching to Similac Advance Isomil after also trying Similac Sensitive.DS has done much better on it. He is a lot less gassy and fussy.
