Soothing a BF child??

I was popping my boob in her mouth everytime she fussed out of fear that she was hungry. Now I'm trying to find other ways to soothe her so when I go back to work her care provider won't go crazy and so DH doesn't feel soo inadequate. Our 1st was honestly the most quiet baby, never really cried, but our new lil girl is quite fussy and harder to please I'm at a loss - usually the only thing that works is nursing.

My question is when your BF'd DC is fussy how do you soothe them??

Re: Soothing a BF child??

  • Swaddling works for a lot of babies, have you tried that with her?

Our DD doesn't really go for swaddling but I wrap her up in her favorite blanket and hold her up on my chest (or DH does).  If that doesn't work, bouncing her a bit and saying shh shh shh does the trick most of the time.

  • Have you tried a pacifier?  Also read Happiest Baby on the Block, hands down that saved us, big time!   Claire liked the Nuk Pacis, but Mam and the Soothie pacis are great for BF babies, keep at it, baby will ilkey spit it out at first.  GL!
