My son has had fever since abou 1pm on Friday. It was 102 on Friday, down to 99.5 Saturday morning, up to 100.5 last night, and 100.9 this morning. My doctor says that as long as it doesn't spike to like 104 or he doesn't get a rash etc there's nothing that can be done. My son has never had a fever like this before and he just turned 1. I don't know what to do next. Should I take him to ER anyways????
Re: Fever for 2 days...what to do now...
I wouldn't do the ER. DD had something like this a couple weeks ago and it took 3 or 4 days for her to get back to normal. Her temp got to 104, and they still didn't recommend ER because it was responding to tylenol.
If he has stuffiness or coughing, I might take him to urgent care to rule out pneumonia (I'm paranoid about pneumonia). Otherwise, tylenol if it gets to 102. If it doesn't come down with tylenol or motrin and a lukewarm bath, and was 103 I'd head to the ER.
Plus I heard having a little fever is good for them, it helps kill whatever is causing it. As long as it doesn't spike like your doctor says.
1.) Pedialyte to prevent dehydration.
2.) Baby Tylenol and or Motrin! You can alternate the 2 of them every three hours. I'm not sure of the dose but that should be on the bottle...
HTH.
