Advice on gift for new baby...

My best friend just had a baby and we're going to visit.  She has TONS of clothes, blankets, diapers, etc.  I don't really know what to bring...I have spoiled this little one already, but want to bring something small to officially welcome her to the world!

We're bringing dinner and dessert...can you offer any suggestions?

A gift card to the mom's favorite diapers-and-wipes store or something personalized like an engraved piggy bank or name plaque.

To the hospital, I usually brought a balloon and a small teether/rattle type toy for the baby.

My standard gift to all new parents (since I've had a baby) is Happiest Baby On The Block DVD, a Miracle Blanket and a noise machine. It comes to about $60.

some small board books are always welcome.  you can never have too many books!  make sure u have a gift receipt though.  i already received 3 copies of good nite moon.

I love the book idea - you could write an inscription welcoming her to the world.  And give your bf an IOU for one night of babysitting so she and her hubby can have a date night!
