Babies: 9 - 12 Months

Who's successfully taken away the paci?

Alright, I always told myself I would take it away by 6 months, but she was teething and I felt bad, so here we sit, 9 months on?Wednesday?and she's still using her binky. Have any of you had success with just pulling it cold turkey? Is there a better method? TIA

Re: Who's successfully taken away the paci?

  • We went cold turkey around 5 months.  He was waking 5-10 times a night for it so for the whole families sanity and health we had to.  I used Sleep Easy Solution (for CIO) and it worked well.  It ended up going much better than I thought it would.  Let me know if you have any questions

  • DD completely gave it up on her own this week. She doesn't want anything to do with it anymore. She looooved it there for awhile, so I did not see this coming. She now wants only her thumb, which she had no interest in until this week either.

  • We did, but DD was never all that tied to it so it was easy for us. She never missed it.

  • I just stopped giving it to him.  I nursed a little more frequently for the first few days, but now he's fine without it.  Sometimes I have to nurse him to comfort him but I don't mind at all :)

If your baby is really attached, I recommend using the "Gentle Removal Plan" found in the No Cry Sleep Solution.  I'm starting to use that so Seth doesn't think he needs to nurse to go to sleep and it's working well.
