NBR: Wedding ring question

My mother gave me her wedding ring when I got married (she got a new one from my dad). The only problem is that it's yellow gold (which I don't mind at all but it doesn't match my engagement ring, which I'd like it to). Is it possible for them to... plate it with white gold? Has anyone done this, or something like it before? My mum doesn't mind so if it's not too expensive it's something I'd like to do.

Thanks!

Re: NBR: Wedding ring question

  • Yes, I've heard of people having this done before.  I don't think it's too expensive, but if I'm not mistaken, I think it can kind of wear off and you'll have to have it replated later.

  • White gold is regular gold with some other metal mixed in(rhodium I think).   My engagement ring is white gold and it has been re-plated once and needs it again.  My wedding band is fine and has never needed it.  I don't know what the problem is because it came from a good-name jewlery store.  If you have it done make sure that they will replate it for you for free when it needs it. It's very simple and doesn't take long at all.

  • I have a white gold ring that needs to be touched up every now and then and they call it rhodium plating (sp?) which is only about $30 at Helzberg.  Maybe that's all they would do for your ring which wouldn't be too expensive.
