Babies: 9 - 12 Months

Baby and Cruise

Just wanted some info if anyone has taken thier baby on a cruise?  My DD will be 10 months when we go on the cruise.  I'm alittle hesitant and not really sure about going.  My brother is getting married and we already booked the cruise awhile back., so we'll be out the money we already paid for.  Just wondering what other peoples experience has been.  Any help is appreciated.

Thanks

Re: Baby and Cruise

  • I actually won a cruise through work and turned it down.  The last cruise I went on had an outbreak of German measles, and I guess disease outbreaks on ships aren't that uncommon.  DD hasn't been fully immunized, so I was worried about something like that happening again.

Plus, cruise ships aren't really medically equipped to deal with pediatric medical issues.  The cruise line wanted me to sign a waiver saying that I knew it was risky and was making me own decision to do it in spite of the lack of on-board medical services for babies.  I know they are just trying to cover themselves liability-wise, but what if something happened?  The risk is probably small, but it was one I wasn't willing to take.

When you look at it realistically, though, you probably take a greater risk by putting DC in a car than you do taking DC on a cruise.  I'm a worrywart, though, so I couldn't go through with it.

  • I am taking my DS on a cruise in February. He'll be 13 months then. I am nervous too, but only thinking that he'll have trouble sleeping in a strange place. We'll see. There's a website - cruisemates.com where they have message boards. You can ask there, they have a board for family cruisers.
  • We'll be taking our then 11 month-old on a cruise in March. I am not too worried. Like the pp said, just hoping he sleeps well so I can enjoy the vacation also!
