DH learned why I don't cook with DD

DD has been growing through a growth spurt so I have had zero sleep for a couple weeks.  DH came home and wanted to let me relax (well fold laundry) while he took care of DD.

He also wanted to make some more pears for her.  Well, I was in the family room and he was in the kitchen (they are basically one big room) and I had my back to him.  I heard him getting out the blender, the pears, etc.  Then, I heard him start peeling.  I was about to turn around and be how are you doing that holding her and then I hear DD scream.

He had slipped and cut the back of her neck.  It is a very superficial cut but I was soooooo mad.  He felt terrible.  So now he knows why I tell him it is hard to do anything the kitchen taking care of her.

  • Um, he was holding your daughter and using a sharp knife? I would be beyond mad. What a foolish thing for him to do.

  • He was holding a peeler.  He didn't think he could actually cut her with it.  Yes, I know extremely stupid.

He is also running on zero sleep too.  Not that is any excuse but he was really shaken up after doing that.  I am sure he will actually use his brain next time.

ya. why didn't he just put her down? I cook with DD all the time.. I just put her on the kitchen floor, give her a couple tupperwares and wooden spoons and let her go to town. Even a peeler is dangerous! Don't they all have the pointy tip on them?

Exactly!  The bumbo and the highchair are right there in the kitchen.  I have no idea why his brain ceased to work.

  • Scary.  I had a similar thing happen yesterday.  I was getting a leftover casserole out of the fridge and didn't know that DD had crawled over right by my feet and I kind of tripped over her,  I could have dropped the heavy casserole right on her head but luckily I didn't.  Another time I was getting something out of the oven and one of them was almost close enough to reach up and touch the hot oven door.  I quickly closed it and moved her away.  But I have learned no more babies in the kitchen when any cooking or knife handling is going on!
  • Yes, when I cook, DD is in the family room in the exersaucer.  Far from anything hot or sharp.

My poor baby!.  I am just thankful it was not worst.

  • oh no! thank goodness it was just a small cut and she's okay.
