Custody question

So DH and I are talking about who we want DS to go to is we die any time soon. Right now, he's going to my parents, but they're old and retiring soon, we would never want to push him on them to raise. We are trying to decide between two couple we love but there's one problem with one of them, the live in Canada.

Does anyone know if there is a problem about a US child going to Canadian parents? Or how much more difficult it is?

I'm doing some more research before we talk to our lawyer and I just wanted to know if anyone knew where to start! thanks!

Re: Custody question

  • Yup. Because at the end of the day, while your wishes are taken into consideration, the decision lies with the courts as to where to place your son. It's not about your wishes in their entirety but what is considered the best option for your child

And I don't think they'll send him out of country. Talk to your lawyer but unfortunately Wills aren't the be all and end all of custody.

  • I can't believe all the typos in my post.

    Thanks for the help

  • It is a bit more complicated but can be done. ?We designated our dear friends who live in Europe as guardians with a 2nd choice in the states if god forbid there was a ruling not to remove them from the country.
