Babies: 9 - 12 Months

** Babystella - re: tubes in ears

Hi,

Thanks for the story about your DS's tubes.  It makes me a little nervous that DD has to be put under for the procedure, but I know it's so minor and common.  And I really just want her to feel better, eat better, sleep better and not be on antibiotics anymore.

So, thanks for sharing!  It helps to hear how much they help other babies.

  • I was so scared too but DS had surgery when he was 2 1/2 months for a double hernia and it was emergency surgery - which was sooooo scary! So when he had the tubes I was still scared but I had already been through it so I kind of knew what to expect. If your DD were to need them don't worry they will help her and you! You will get some sleep and she will rest better! :):) Good luck and keep us posted!

  • I hope to give you a reassuring reply as well. DS had his tubes at 7 months. They have been the best thing EVER. I was without DS for 30 min. total and he was playing with a buddy with NO complaints 3 hours later. I will warm you it is sad when they are coming out of the?anesthesia?but they brought DS to us we paid and left and he was upset till we got in the car and then he fell asleep and slept 2 hours when we got home and he was a perfect baby the rest of the day. It is scary b/c it is your child but we have only had 2 minor ear infections with drainage 2 times in the last almost 5 months. Before tubes he had an ear infection and was on antibiotics for 3 months straight.?
  • Thank you girls both!!  I'm sure I may have more questions if/when the ENT decides she needs them.

  • DS just got tubes put in on Monday. It was a breeze. I was so scared and nervous, but it was WAY harder on me than it was on him. They gave him a little tylenol w/ a mild seditive before they came to get him, only because he isn't good with strangers and I didn't want him screaming and scared to death of being around all those people in a strange place. But like PP said, he was away from me for no more than 30 minutes. The procedure only took 10 minutes at the most. When they brought him back to us, we dressed him, fed him a bottle and we were on our way home. I think the hardest part was him not eating anything after midnight so he couldn't have his morning bottle when we had to wake him. He was just a little fussy on the way home, but after that he was good to go. He napped more than usual that day and by noon he was all over the place like nothing had ever happened. He's done well so far, but still getting up several times a night. I know it's only been a few days, but hopefully he'll start to rest better soon. I just hope that it helps out with the ear infection problem that we've had. If your dd has to get them, hopefully it will make for a happier and healthier baby :) No worries!!
