I'm trying not to take prescription meds, but I'd love to go one day without the runs. I have a script for Levbid, which I've taken before but I'd just rather not. I'm eating enough fiber and have tried probiotics to to avail. I know I should probably give up coffee, but I love it and just can't. Not yet.
If you have struggled with IBS-D, what have you tried that worked?
TIA!
Re: NPR: Anyone else have IBS-D? Gross.
i am not diagnosed IBS-D but since giving birth to DS have many of the symptoms - pain esp in the morning, runs a lot, etc...
for me immodium is all i take... and probiotic yogurt every night - which seems to help me a bit.
be careful with TOO much fiber- that will MAKE you go more.
I sell a med for IBS-C so i'm familiar with them both- but know more about the C end of it. IBS-D is much harder to treat - often docs find success with SSRI's (antidepressants) and diet changes.
I would really make all the diet changes before taking more/new meds, etc.
I know this is a really dumb question, but here is is anyway...
With IBS do you have a tendancy to not keep weight on?
Wouldn't that be great!?! I wish I had that problem.
I don't lose a lot of weight, just 5lbs or so when its really horrible. I do have a tendancy to get dehydrated though. But I don't have IBS all the time, it comes and goes in episodes that last a few weeks to a few months. And I don't feel horrible and sick like you'd think you would if you had diarrhea all the time, I just have to go the bathroom urgently a lot and often have some abdominal pain. I think most people have the constipating kind of IBS, though.
Actually, I do get this quite often but don't know if it's frequent enough to be labled IBS.
Yeah, the diagnosis is pretty subjective. I'm pretty sure they have no idea what causes my "condition" so they just call it IBS-D. I've had all sorts of tests, even a frickin' colonoscopy, and everything came back normal. Shoot, I even know that I'm free of parasites!
