If you had an epidural...

Can you feel the spot in your back where you had the epidural (almost like a little scab?) ?

?

Have you had any back pain/irritation or anything similar months after you had the baby?

?

The reason I ask is because I can't tell if what I'm feeling is from the epidural...I'lll try to explain this as clear as possible:

In my back, where my epidural was almost 4 months ago, I have this spot that kills--it hurts really bad. ?And when I'm sitting still, I can feel numbness--its just a weird sensation. ?Is this bad? ?Could this not have anything to do with the epidural? ?Between this and some other issues I'm having, I feel like I'm falling apart. ?

Re: If you had an epidural...

  • I had zero problems with mine.

  • No, I didn't have anything like that.  I would go see the dr just to make sure it isn't anything.
  • I had a tiny little scab but no other symptoms after the epi
  • No I had no problems but I have heard of people having the same issue as you.

  • I would mention it you your DR but it might just be taking a while to heal all the way.  Your body needs time to adjust to its new normal.  If you are having pain/numbness in your legs or feet I would be a little more worried.

Definitely mention it to your DR to ease your mind.

    Feel better!

  • No problems with mine.

  • No, nothing to report here. I would call a Dr or chiropractor.
  • I didn't have any problems with mine.

  • I had almost the exact same thing happen to me! Even when I was standing for awhile it would almost feel like my lower back would get "stuck" or something.  It continued for a long time.  I have heard that this has happened to other also.  I am totally again an epi this time in fear of having the same symptoms again.  I don't know if there is anything your dr can do for you but its worth asking him/her at least.
  • Well, I was one of those rare freaks that had a really, really hard time getting an epi inserted. ?The anaesthesiologist reinserted it (no exaggeration) about 20 times before it finally went in right. ?It took about 45 minutes to get it inserted in the right place & was SO painful. ?After delivery, I had a bruise the size of my fist dotted w/little scabs from all the jabbing & poking. ?To answer your question, yes I could "feel" where the epi had been! ?It ached for months, even after the bruise was gone. ?I can't remember when I stopped noticing it, but it definitely went away. ?I hope that yours does too!
  • I had one that they put in wrong...for a whole year I had pain. it started where it had gone in ( also a tiny scab), and shot in a straight line a few inches..I didn't feel it all of the time, but when I would sit up, or lean back I would feel it, and it often felt numb at other times.

I didn't even get any pain relief with the epidural- it was double sucky to end up with a year of pain BECAUSE of the epidural!! WHAT a rip off!

  • I had the SAME thing. Now at 2.5yrs post-partum, I don't feel a thing anymore and haven't for a while.

  • I had no problems but I think I remember hearing or being told this could be a side effect.  Something like that.

  • In addition to the horrific problems the epi caused during labor, my heel was numb for almost a year after.

I refused to even consider it with #2 and it's not an option for #3 either.

I thought I'd never feel normal in my heel again, but it did go away.  Took a year, but went away.

  • I had an epi for my 1st c/s and had no problems with it.  Sorry and I hope it goes away soon.
  • After mine I would have shooting pains down my back.  The pain wasn't awful but I did have to stop what I was doing and let it work itself out.  They went away got fewer and fewer.  Not sure if it was from the epidural or not, but I didn't have them before it.
  • I don't feel the spot outwardly (like a scab). But I do still have some dull, throbbing type pain in that general area.
