According to a joint study last year by Microsoft and the University of Illinois, it takes, on average, nearly 17 minutes (yes seventeen is correct!) for a worker interrupted by an email to get back to what he or she was doing.
I believe it. That was my biggest challenge at my old job, getting focused again after being interrupted. Whether it was the phone, email or someone walking in my office, it was impossible for me to get anything done b/c I was always being interrupted. Usually I'd end up on here after my concentration was broken. hehe
