Photoshop editing question, can it do this?

I have a picture with a busy background.  Can you crop the subject out and just have a plain background?

the only way i know how to do this is to trace your subject and then copy/paste it into a new document.  it's a pain in the ass, though.

i hope someone has an easier solution.

There are a couple ways that I know of to get that effect... but it always ends up looking pretty cheesy and obvious. Especially when it comes to the hair, etc. It's really hard to trace around strands of hair! =o)?
