a point to teach your children about donating gifts to the less fortunate during the holidays or is the main focus on them receiving the gifts they want?  just curious what others do and at what age did you start teaching about giving rather than receiving?

I give every year and this year Halee is going to come with me.  She was too young last year to "know" what I was doing but I think she will get it this year

We try to do a bit of both. ?Ethan gets lots of gifts, but we also donate a lot of his old toys and I make it a point to have him put coins or dollars in the Salvation Army buckets himself so he gets used to the idea of being charitable. ?

He's 2. 5 years and this is the first year we've really made a conscious effort because we think he's at an age where he can start to understand the significance.??

DD is too young right now. But giving is always a part of our holiday, so as she gets older she'll understand why we buy toys/food for kids we don't know and why she has to get rid of her old toys/clothes.
