Ours went up because our taxes went up - about $200 a month. But, we're refinancing - the rates are really low right now - and saving $400 a month, so we're more than breaking even.
We're expecting ours to go up about $300 pretty soon. We'd been paying extra for escrow since we were expecting it so hopefully we figured it right and won't be paying more then I calculated!
Maybe this is the universe's way of making your job decision for you. Something very similar happened to us this past summer. I couldn't make up my mind about something, finally decided, then two weeks later was pretty much slapped across the face by the-powers-that-be and told "wrong decision, dummy!"?
That's actually pretty common. Some years you could end up getting a
check back from the escrow acct. It sucks, but is
necessary. The other option is to save back your tax money
instead of escrowing it.
That happend to us a couple of years ago. they said we didn't pay enough escow (plus we had a tax incease) and it went up 200 dollars, luckily the next year we paid the correct amount of escow plus paid back what we owed and our payment went down 100 dollars. We find out in Feb what it does next (hopefully nothing)
That's why I stopped escrowing. I had Countrywide at the time and they were AWFUL at managing the escrow. I refinanced away from them and said I'll handle my own taxes/insurance. Worked out great until my property taxes went up about $700./yr.
My Town is NUTS. Too bad for them I'm a Realtor here and know my property isn't valued at the value they gave. I filed for an abatement and I'll likely win. The guy said, "Well, everyone's home dropped in value." 'kay....not MY problem.
I'll should see a hefty portion of my taxes returned to me in March, but writing that check out for December SUCKED.
Re: mortgage upped by $200 a month. Lovely.
Liam is 5!
Ooh, that sucks. I'm sorry :-(

Good luck to you guys!?
Aaargh, I'm so sorry. See if you can find out whether it was a mistake first. If not, I guess the good news is that you didn't quit yet, right?
That freaking sucks, though.
