We had a small party, the weekend before his birthday, with my mom, and then 2 other families (the one I nanny for and then a friend- MommyNow and her kids).
On his birthday we took him out for dinner at an awesome Mexican restaurant and for a horse and carriage ride. He loved it.
Well, he's super into trains, so we rented a train that comes to parties and events. He and his friends/cousins rode the train around the neighborhood for an hour. We bought him the Thomas & Friends train table and had it set up at the party. Just about every gift he got was train related. We had all kinds of food and cake/ice cream. He played with all the kids after the train left and opened gifts and ate! It was fun!
We had a Frosty the Snowman themed brunch on a Saturday morning (in June). I invited about 10 couples, only about 4 kids. It went much better than the previous year. The Frosty theme worked out great, was easy to do and DD loves Frosty. It was fun, easy, and not so expensive, since I served breakfast food (some Paula Dean receipes).
I just had a baby 10 days prior, had heart damage from it, so we had an EXTREMELY understated birthday for my sweet boy. We went to Chipotle for dinner (he liked it), and cake and presents.
Fortunately 2 year olds have no idea what a birthday is so I don't actually feel bad seeing as we had heavy issues going on.
His third was also simple and his fourth will likely be as well.
We had a party the weekend after her birthday with about 20 people (all family). It was a cupcake theme at the park by our house. On her actual birthday we had dinner at my parents with a cake.?
we went really low key and just had a few family members and a couple neighbors over for pizza and elmo cake I had to work the whole day and my MOM made her the Elmo cake.
I am thinking of doing a party somewhere this year, but I just can't figure out where and how many people to invite.
We didn't have a real big party at all for her. We celebrated with DH's family on Thanksgiving. Then on her actual bday, it was just the three of us. We took her to Chicago to the aquarium, then took her out to eat and came home, had cake and opened presents. She loved it and I didn't have to stress out at all. I think she enjoyed it much more then if I'd have gone all out and had a big party for her. We don't know a lot of people real well with other kids her age so I don't feel that she would have had much fun with a bunch of adults in her face all day long.
