Those who have ds, HELP ME!!

Ds started throwing things around 8m old & here we are a year later, & he's still going strong. ?He throws all his toys, his bath toys, his sippy, his food, everything. ?The toys are just annoying, but the food & sippy is just another mess for me to clean up. ?I am so sick of it. ?I admonish him for the food & the sippy, but it does no good. ? The first time, he gets a stern warning & a reminder to keep it on his tray. ?The second time, I take away his food or sippy, but big deal b/c then he just does it again at the next meal. ?I can't seem to get through to him. ?I've given up on him drinking milk b/c it's just too messy. ?He only gets water. ?Dd NEVER throws. ?WTF do I do?

  • I wish I could help.  These posts just scare me~!
  • Yeah, the super-awesome part is when he lobs his sippy about 5 feet & then looks at me, points at it, & says "uh-oh". ?Dude, you didn't drop it...I watched you launch it across the room. ?That's SO NOT an "uh-oh"!! ? hmmm...maybe the "uh-oh" is in reference to that little vein pulsating on my temple...? ?grrrrrr.

  • It almost sounds like he is doing it to get a reaction out of you.
  • Ugh, just typed a reply, then lost it. I hate that!

    Two suggestions:

For toys, I'd try a toy time out. Take the toy he throws and put it on a shelf or in a box he can't reach. My two year old knows the deal, so she loses her toy for the day. You can choose how long it disappears.

For the sippy, I'd get a sippy cup tether. I can post a link to what I mean, I know my Walgreens has some of these type things. That way, you can strap the sippy to his chair. No satisfying thunk on the ground, no mommy chasing the cup; he can pull it back up himself. It may make his "game" lose it's luster. Here is what I mean: https://www.inchbug.com/sg100.html
  • My two boys do the exact same thing & it drives me insane!  We do the same thing, a warning first then take it away, but it doesn't work at all.  Now they both do it with their forks.  I don't know what to do about the fork thing b/c I obviously can't take those away b/c we don't like them to eat with their hands.  It's actually to the point where they won't eat without a fork.  Thank goodness!!

So no advice here b/c I'm in the same situation!

  • Y'know what...I'm a little embarrassed to say that I actually have sippy tethers! ?I use them every time we go out, but never thought to use them at home...DUH! ?I can't believe dh & I never thought of this! ?See, this is why I need this board!! ?Thank you so much! ?
  • While I only have 1 right now, he had a lot of negative attention getting behaviors from about 14 months-25 months.  I found that the best thing to do for my DS is ignore him because he "wants" that reaction.  After 2 or 3 times of trying something for a reaction he stops.  I'm probably no help, but I figured I'd try anyway.

  • DS is learning to throw things right now. He gets a stern warning the first time and then straight into time out the second. My pedi said time-outs can be started and understood at nine months and DS definitely gets it. Highly recommended although you may have to hold him there and sit with him in the begining...
