If you have your tree decorated already

how do you keep your toddler from playing with/taking off the ornaments?

We went to a friends house over the weekend and they already had their tree up and decorated.  DD was taking the ornamets off the bottom and playing with them.  My friend didn't care and said that she put the "kid friendly" ones near the bottom for that reason.  However, they have a fake tree so no pine needles were falling all over the place like will happen with ours.

Re: If you have your tree decorated already

  • its fun for a day and then they don't notice the tree anymore.  Mitch every now and then still rings a bell ornament that is on the tree...but that's about it.

  • We also put the kid friendly ones on the bottom, but she had to have a few time outs for taking the bows off of all the gifts.
  • Well, fortunately, I told DS he's not to touch and he hasn't so far.  When I was putting the tree up, however, he decided to try to "help" and he threw a glass ornament at me and it shattered and he fell to pieces because it scared him.  Sooo, I think he equates the ornaments with hazardous "no-no's" and can't be bothered with them.
