Food and spit up

Did you find that introducing solid food (rice cereal) helped ease spit up or relux? What age did your dc start solids?

I've heard that when dd starts solids it will help her stomach issues. I'm really looking forwards to it! But I also hear the opposite sometimes - that it makes it worse.

Re: Food and spit up

  • I think our DD's spit up/reflux resolved on it's own just as she got older and before introducing solids. We tried at 4 months only because I was returning to work and she would not take a bottle. It didn't work out anyway and eventually she did take the bottle. So we waited until about 6 months to introduce solids again. She was actually more physically ready then, too. Our DD did fine with solids. No spit-up or other issues like that. (BTW, your DD is SO adorable in that pic!)  GL!

  • We waited until 6 months. But he never really had spit-up issues. We also skipped cereal since it made him constipated and just started with fruits/veggies. Have fun with introducing foods!
  • We started solids at 6 months. DD spit up like crazy since day one and solids did not help. It wasn't until she was about 8 months and crawling/sitting up that the spitting up stopped. Mia is sooo cute!
  • My son is a spit upper, even with food. The doc says he will out grow it. It's a form of acid reflux - something about the esophagus not fully grown yet. He says it's usually around 7-8 months. My friend's daughter had and out grew it about 7 months.

We started him on food at 4 months because he just loves to eat. I make all his food and can't get enough of it. The only thing he reacted to was mango and papaya (but babies usually do that early). Now he can't get enough of it.
