When you named your kid(s)...

...did your DH care or have input?

We are working out names right now, and I feel like DH doesn't really give a sh*t.  When I made a middle name suggestion, and the reason behind it, he was cool with it.  This was like 3 days ago.  Then tonight he was like "what was that name again?"   Oh and "oh I don't like how that is spelled" even though I reminded him of the reasoning (family name).

Then he couldn't even remember our girl name, when it was the only one we had and it was his pick!

WTF!  He has input but then forgets?  Cripes!

Re: When you named your kid(s)...

  • He had very strong opinions, it was really annoying.  But, I love the names we ended up with so I guess it was worth it.

  • He only made a few suggestions, but was very comfortable shooting down my suggestions. He ended up picking Miles' first name and I picked his mn (Peyton). I picked Jonas' full name (Jonas Alexander).
  • DH is very forgetfull, and will not always remember names that we have talked about.  But he definitely has an opinion.  I just have to remember to be patient with him about it.
  • I had my boy's name chosen for a while, and DH was on board with it. He was being fussy about middle name choices, and I ultimately left it up to him. He finally decided when DS was 2 days old. So, yes he had input. Did he care? Yes, he was being pretty fussy about agreeing to a middle name.
  • DH was completely involved. It shocked me b/c like so many of us, I had my name list from jr. high, but DH vetoed them all. At first I was taken aback b/c I thought, "this is my baby." Then I remembered it's his, too.

  • Yes, he cared and he had more than input- he had veto power! Just like I did! We had to both agree on the name or it was out. Luckily, we both have very similar taste in names so it wasnt very hard for us to narrow it down to the ones we chose.?
  • He vetoes more than he suggests, but he's involved.  One of the names on our short list is one of his few suggestions.

  • My DH really did care and actually chose Nora's middle name on his own.  It's so funny that he felt strongly about her name since he usually has zero opinion on anything else.
  • DH was really uninterested in playing the name game w/ DD - we actually didn't pick a name ?until we were in the freakin' hospital. He would shoot names down like crazy though -?

    ?

I've talked to him about it since and basically he just felt like it's a crazy amount of responsibility - it's one of the first, really?permanent?things you can do to a kid, ?I mean, if you , I don't know - put their diaper on wrong, or whatever it's no big deal. You can fix it, and they won't remember, but if you pick a bad name the kids stuck with it forever.

    ?

Anyway, that's way over dramatic, but that's why MH was putting it off with our DD.?

  • Yes, he actually decided on DS's name.  He's pretty opinionated on names...which translates into:  he doesn't like most names and makes it super complicated to choose a name for our offspring!  We're having the hardest time deciding on a name for this baby....but not because of me.

  • He made one godawful suggestion when I was about 6 weeks pregnant, and I told him he no longer was allowed to suggest names ;P  I gave him veto power and that was it.  This was fine with him, actually - he works ft and goes to school pt, so he doesn't really HAVE spare time to think about names for children.

I am pretty picky and had a lot of rules for baby naming, so it just made more sense for me to find names I liked that fit all the rules.

He did veto quite a few that I really liked, and I still have ZERO boy names that he will agree to, so I am going to be completely stressed trying to find a boy name if that is what we have next time around ;P  But we were able to go to the hospital with 3 solid names that I picked and he agreed to for DD.

  • He did.

    His names were either:

    a) too popular - Aiden, Ethan, etc.

    b) names of an ex-boyfriend or former hellion student!

so I ended up with the final say on DS's name (he did approve of it though).
