Finally spoke up after 4 years.

By now, everyone knows my MIL is batsh*t crazy, but more in an amusing way than a harmful way.  I pretty much just laugh off most of her comments because they are so far out there, they are just not worth paying attention to.

But there is one thing she has said over and over to me.  This weekend was probably about the 40th time she said it to me (I'm guessing about 10 times a year for 4 years) so I finally had to ask her just what the hell she was talking about.

My DH was diagnosed with an autoimmune disease about 3 weeks after we returned from our honeymoon.  He actually had symptoms for at least a year previous but went into a flare on our honeymoon and was almost incapacitated by the time we returned home.  He was actually in pretty bad shape on our wedding day and could hardly walk as we left our reception.   MIL has said over and over again that "Lots of people" have commented that it is so odd that DH should get so sick after he got married.  She says it in a way that insinuates that I "did" this to DH.  (Truth is, it has a gentic component, so if anyone "did" it to him, it was probably her!)

I have never once believed that anyone has ever said such a thing to MIL.  That's just her M.O.  Whenever she wants to say something assy, she always attributes it to someone else and pretends she is just repeating it.  Truth is, it's her thought and hers alone.

So I finally asked exactly who "alot of people" are?  I asked her who would be so ridiculous as to think I had so much power that within hours of marrying me, I would render DH physically incapacitated and within weeks, obliterate his immune system?  I told her I wished I had such powers because I could think of a few people I could use that on (smirk!)

MIL stammered, stutterd, changed the topic a couple of times and never did tell me who "a lot of people" are.  I'm curious to see if this ever comes up again.

I usually don't let MIL get to me but it felt good to shut her up this once.
