Ladies with a DSLR come in

I know there was a post a while back about upgrading to a DSLR camera but I can't seem to find it. I think I've finally convinced DH to buy a DSLR and now I have to decide which one. Costco has a great deal on the Nikon D60 but I've also heard good things about the D40 and the Canon XSi. If you have experience with any, I'd love to hear your thoughts!

  • I haven't tried any of those, but I have the D70 and love it!

  • its split down the middle when it come to my friends with DSLR's Im hoping to get a Nikon d40 in the next few weeks as well. Kits and Talls had a great deal of them on Friday but we just couldnt afford it then :( boo!

I've heard its just like a Ford vs. Chevy kinda thing...people just grow up liking one over the other. I'd say go to the store and try them both out (canon/nikon) and see which best fits you :)

    good luck!

  • I have the Nikon D40x and I LOVE it. Best camera I have ever used and I have had many. I'm partial to Nikon since I have had so many. I got mine last Christmas and at the time it had the best reviews. I actually bought mine off Ebay with a whole bunch of extra's including a bag and an addl lens for about $900.

  • The only problem with the D40 is that the autofocus is not on the camera body, so you have to buy lenses with autofocus built in.  Which can mean more expensive lenses if you want more lenses.

I have the D70 and I really like it, ahtough I still haven't taken the time to really learn how to do much with it, and I really really need to learn photoshop.

  • I *just* got a Canon SXi.  I haven't really used it, but i'm happy with it so far... In my research it seemed like the best value.  I got it from circuit city, with an accidental protection plan.  I don't think i'd ever take it out of its case if i didn't ; )

  • I have the Canon 40D, but for those who dont need an advanced amateur/semi-pro camera, the Xsi is a great camera.  I am very partial to Canon over Nikon... in my opinion, Canon has the better glass (meaning better lenses), and that can make all the difference in the world when setting up your photography outfit.  However, if you are just planning on messing around with the camera and dont care too much about a bunch of lenses, many uses, etc. (just want an all around deent camera and lens), I would just go try the different cameras out and see which one feels the best to you.  Get the camera in your hand and try it out, etc.  Kenmore Camera in Kenmore is great for that and they have really nowledgeable and helpful sales people who are also not pushy.

You'd better see what is going to happen to that with Circuit City going out of business... :)
