Which lenses do you use most often? I just bought mine on Saturday (early holiday gift) and it came with both the 18-55mm and 55-200mm VR lenses.
If you were going to buy a 3rd... and you take pictures mostly of your kids, would you get one that takes good pictures with low light w/o a flash?
Also, does which type of memory card you buy make a difference? Not the size, but the speed? SanDisk makes different quality levels and I'm not sure if it makes sense to pay the extra $.
Finally, do you use UV filters? The only extra thing that the store could convince me to buy were UV filters for each lens, to prevent scratching, but the brand was Quantaray, which Ken Rockwell doesn't recommend.
Thanks!
Re: Nikon D40 owners....
Just posting to see the recs. This camera is on my Christmas list.
I don't know much about lenses (okay, I know nothing about lenses), but I know my point and shoot camera doesn't do well with low light. I have to constantly play with turning the flash on or off, so I'd love a lense that did a good job with low light.

Protrait lens: 50mm 1.8 f or splurge for the 1.4 f (lower aperture, better in lower lights)
I have 3 memory cards (not need for three but I usually have on in the computer, one in the camera and an extra : ) Mine are two 2G cards and one 4G. I don't notice any difference btw them (other than more storage).
HTH
I totally need that! How much was the camera? I really wish I had a job so I could justify spending that $$.

Angela - I paid $449 for the camera body and 18-55mm lens and for an extra $149 I got the 55-200mm VR (vibration-resistant) lens. I got the 55-200 b/c it was $100 off and came with a free Nikon case big enough to hold the camera, two lenses, and a flash. I didn't do the warranty, which was an extra $78 (!!) for one year.
I just checked their website and they're running the same deal (they're advertising the $99 55-200 lens, but for $50 more the salesperson told me that the VR was worth it.
Thank you for the information!
