Babies: 9 - 12 Months

Food allergies?

I'm hoping someone here has some advice.  My (breastfed) daughter will be 6 months this week and we tried solids for the first time about 2 weeks ago.  We had her eating rice for 3 days and she broke out in a very bad case of excema.  We took her to the pedi and they suggested eucerin and to leave out the rice to see if it got better.  The rash did get better and we left out all solids for a week.  Last night I tried oatmeal and this morning, she had a rash on her face and neck and it looks like the excema may be returning.  Looks like no solids for now.

Did anyone else go through this?  Could this be a bad sign for allergies in the future?  Did anyone outgrow this?

 Thanks!

Re: Food allergies?

  • Could definately be sign of an allergy. I would pass on grains and just start with fruits and veggies for a few months. If you try again in a few months and she breaks out again I would have her tested for allergies.

  • depending on what brand, some rice and oatmeals contain soy, which is one of the more common allergens.  We already know that DS has eczema, so I was very cautious about starting DS on solids.  I know Gerber has soy, so we gave DS earth's best and he was fine.
