Sitting up in crib- help!

My 12 month old has begun sitting up every time she wakes and crying until I go get her.  I've tried letting her cry (reluctantly) and it doesn't stop- she'll go on over an hour.  I know she can lay herself down b/c sometimes for a nap I sit her in her crib with a soft book and she plays a bit then lies down and goes to sleep!  I've tried going in, laying her down and leaving, and after the 43rd time (in 1.5 hours) she was still at it and escalating.  Tips?  Thanks!

No real advice other than my ds went through this and he still will do this occasionally. I think it is a phase. I would go in every 10 to 15 minutes reassure him and lay him back down ...eventually he'd fall back to sleep. It's very frustrating. I hope your dd will stop soon! GL
