Co-sleeping & a night out...

Sooo, I figure the most obvious answer is, you just can't leave baby with a sitter/grandparent, etc for a long time if you co-sleep?

We made a decision to co-sleep with DD....it has worked out for us wonderfully, except for the very (like once a year) infrequent late night outting without baby.

Anyone else out there co-sleeping with any advice if you have to leave baby overnight or at least late at night?  FYI, DD doesn't go down in the crib without a fight anymore.  She's really used to going to sleep together now.  Sigh.

TIA!

Re: Co-sleeping & a night out...

  • We have yet to have a situation where we haven't been able to sleep with our DD, so I'm of no help here. I just figure that she will be baby for such a short time, that if I miss out on a party here and there for a couple years it'll be fine in the long run.

  • It's the #1 reason I don't go out anywhere at night. I figure, oh well, I'll get out again one day.

  • Will she fall asleep in someone else's arms? We co-slept, but DD would also go down in a crib if need be (or in my mom's arms), so we never ran into that problem, but I can understand. It seems like there has to be a better answer than just not going out. When are you going out? Do you have time to try to *teach* her to fall asleep in her crib on occasion?

  • I refuse to leave DD overnight until she is older. I just accept a later bedtime if she won't go to sleep with whoever is watching her.. but I also try to always be the one to put her to sleep. I can only think of once or twice where we have been gone during her bedtime and she just went to bed late. But I am so not a stickler for a schedule, so it doesn't really bother me.
