AW: DS pulled himself up! - and a question

DS pulled himself up on our laundry basket today (with me holding the basket firmly on the ground)!  I can tell he definitely still needs to learn that it's just as important to hold onto whatever he uses to pull himself up though.  My question: is it common for babies to pull themselves up before crawling?  I know cruising usually starts happening soon after pulling oneself up, which, of course, leads to walking.  DS seems to be nowhere near crawling, so I'm beginning to wonder if he's going to skip crawling.

  • I don't know if it's common or not, but DS has been pulling himself up on stuff for a few weeks now.  He's also trying to figure out crawling, so at this point, I'm not sure which is going to come first.

  • My DD did things a little backwards, too. She could pull herself up, got from all fours to sitting, and could stand unassisted and even "cruise" a little tiny bit, all before she started crawling.

Don't worry about it! Maybe he will walk and never crawl, but that's not a bad thing.

  • DD actually pulled up the week before she started crawling.  She pulled up, crawled and cruised all in the same week!!!

  • My DS started crawling a week before 6 months and has been pulling himself up for about 2 weeks now.
