Tylenol cold meds okay while breastfeeding?

I know you can take tylenol but this stuff has three other ingredients in it. I have such a bad cold I can't stand it. My other concern is that my DH and I tried for #2 this month and I already ovulated...so if the first time was a charm...I could be very early pregnant. Should I skip the meds or take them? I can't decide.

Re: Tylenol cold meds okay while breastfeeding?

  • I was told NOT to take any cold meds because the decongestants can dry you up...I took motrin but if you are PG you do NOT want to take Motrin. I would try really hard to skip the meds but if you have to take regular tylenol to at least help some. Also take lots of hot showers and drink warm tea. Sorry ou are not feeling well :(

  • The girlies on here will tell you not to take antihistamines because they can dry you up.  Yes, they *can* dry you up, but I've taken them a handful of times and my supply has not suffered at all.  Taking antihistamines once will not kill your supply.
  • It's true, taking an anti-histamine once or twice if you're miserable will not dry up your supply. I avoided them the first year of BF'ing though. The second year I was less careful and took Advil Sinus once or twice a day for three or four days and I did notice a drop in supply (stats I've read say up to 25% drop is average), although I was able to get it back up again afterwards. At this point he was only nursing like twice a day anyways so I figured it wasn't as big of a deal.
