Babies: 9 - 12 Months

Baby Fell...

Ok...so now I know that DD is too big for her bouncy chair because she sat up in it and flipped it over and fell face first on the kitchen floor....no flames please I already feel so awful.

My question is- I picked her up immediately, and she stopped crying after about 10 seconds. No bruise, no bump, no blood, and no more crying. She acted normal for the next 1.5 hours and then I bathed her, nursed her and put her to sleep. Should I be worried about a concussion? DH says "she's fine!" She acted fine, nursed fine etc but of course when you google "baby" + "concussion" terrible things appear.

Please put my mind at ease....She is ok...right?

Re: Baby Fell...

  • First of all, don't beat yourself up! We've all had things like this happen (or will at some point). It sounds like she's fine but why don't you just call your pedi for some reassurance or direction on what to look out for? That's what I would do. Hang in there...

  • No flames from me! Avery has fallen off the couch before. I felt awful, but she was totally fine. I'm sure she's okay if she seemed fine, but if you're really worried, you could call the pedi's emergency number for peace of mind.
  • DS fell off the changing station at the mall today. It was awful! I can't stop beating myself up about it. He has a little bruise on his head and a big one on his knee. He is acting 100% normal. These things are going to happen to even the best of parents. That's what I keep telling myself at least.

    ((hugs))

  • I know what you mean about feeling awful! DD has fallen before. She now falls once a day because she's learning to walk. Just keep an eye on her...and watch her pupils make sure one doesn't become bigger than the other. She's most likely okay though.

Like pp said it happens to the best of us!Smile

  • Earlier this week DD hit her head hard on the window sill.  I too felt awful, but know that it is part of being a kid and learning to move around.  She had a purple bruise for a couple of days, but is doing fine.  Please don't beat yourself up (though I know that is easier said than done)!
