Anyone need a helmet for DC- Flat head

I'm getting paranoid because his right side of head is flat, and it doesn't seem to be getting better. We have been turning his head when he sleeps, and keeping him on his tummy and off his back as much as possible when awake.

I don't know what else to do. Our Dr. is pretty much clueless about flat head. When do you know when it is time for a helmet? Does insurance cover them?

  • I can't really answer your questions.  But my pedi told me at DD's four month appt that her head was looking flat- she recommended an exersaucer and to do as much tummy time as possible.  Also, my Aunt (who is a nurse) told me to alternate every couple of weeks the direction DD sleeps in her crib.  She said most babies will turn their heads towards the door so she said to lay the baby the opposite way every couple of weeks, it's supposed to help even out the head.  HTH.  I'd consult another pedi in your situation though.
