Babies: 9 - 12 Months

XP: Best. Advice. Ever.

This is the same as what I posted on 0-6 Wink

When I was a nanny the mom I nannied for told me that when kids are crabby to put them in water.  She said runt hem a warm tub, use bubbles or whatever it takes, but put them in water.

So when my first was born and came down with colic this is what we did.  The sound of the water calmed him and it helped him relax enough to nurse.

Now with my second I'm finding out that it's still true! This afternoon Kate was a mess.  Crabby, not nursing, wouldn't sleep.  I ran a tub, got in with her and within an hour she had nursed, played and is now sound a sleep.

If they are crabby, put them in water. ;)

  • Love it. I am going to remember this advice. It's always good to have a few go-to tricks for when they're cranky and nothing else is working. Thanks!

  • I've had this work like a charm. One reason why bathtime is part of bedtime, especially when she's really crabby: it really calms her down and she konks right out after bath and a lotion massage. This is great advice to spread!

  • Great advice! DS is sick right now, and when he is awake, he is crabby the whole time. More baths I guess!
  • I definitely agree.  My Ds had a 1 month stretch of fussy evenings when he was 3-4 months and baths were the only thing to quiet him.  He loves baths, showers, pools.  Any kind of water.
  • Thanks for the advice!  You have 2 kids?

yep.  Ds is 5 1/2 and dd will be 8 months on the 7th!

  • That is great advice.  I always forget when we are in the moment, particularly if it's in the middle of the day, but never hurts to have an extra bath!
