How long after baby will you take off from riding?

With my son, I took off almost year. My back killed me for over 9 months from the epidural. And my stitches made everything uncomfortable for quite some time. But, depending on how delivery goes with #2, I'd like to be back to riding 6 weeks after. Taking it slow, of course.

The obvious is of course call OB or Midwife but given my circumstances I will throw it out here anyway.
So this is baby #2 and I did not naturally go into labor with my first.
Thursday I had insane contractions that had me crying and incapacitated. I went to L&D until the next day where they were giving me stuff to stop the contractions as well as betamethasone to mature her lungs.

Anyway here we are Sunday and I am getting contractions that are consistent and strong enough I have to lay down and breath through them. When I was in L&D I was thick and closed so it's unlikely I'm at all dilated. I am afraid if I call I won't be taken seriously. Should I just wait and see if they become unbearable again?

Okay okay okay. I know this is SUPER early... but I love Autumn and October is one of my favorite months and I really really enjoy Halloween and this year will be the first year that I get to snug my baby during the chill and enjoy the festivities with him. So I'm already craving the Autumn. Plus, I figure we'll all be so flipping busy caring for a newborn that we might not be poking around the group at Halloween time so I thought I'd go ahead and ask.

Do any of you have plans to dress up your wee one for Halloween this year? If so, what are your ideas, or have you already chosen something?

In honor of that crazy dream I had last year where Hobbes instructed me to name my first son Calvin... DS will be going as... CALVIN from C&H. Hur hur.

It's a super simple costume with the red stripe shirt and little blue jeans. Very very likely DS is NOT going to have blonde hair so I don't know how I'm going to do that. I'll have to get crafty. But I'm so excited about it already and I think DH is tired of hearing about it. So... I've turned to you ladies instead. Lucky ducks! :wink

Tell me your ideas for babe costumes!

I'm on baby 3 here, first one, I had a smooth delivery no issues with epidural or anything. Second time I had a horrible anesthesiologist- it took him 4 tries to get the epidural in correctly (I actually heard the crunch when he scraped my spine on the third try) and then it didn't even work correctly! I only felt it on half my body and by the time I was ready to push I had almost all feeling back and felt the burning of the delivery and pushing! So now that baby 3 is due soon, (due on 9/1, but I feel like he will be early) I have been going constantly back and forth over whether or not I even want to TRY an epidural or attempt to go with as much of a non medicated birth as I can. I am by no means a "crunchy" mom, but with such the extreme difference I had I'm a little scared this time around, but also the fact that I didn't really feel contractions (I did need oxygen throughout the contractions though) just the burning of the pushing and actual delivery, I am slightly convinced that I can do it with no medicine I just might need oxygen for the delivery. I tried talking about it with my husband and he feels that I will try it but at the last minute be crying for the epidural, so no help from him really. I suppose my question is, have any of you tried and succeeded at a natural birth (in a hospital) after two medicated births?

I'm reaching out to other BTDT moms who made a registry for the sole purpose of purchasing the stuff they need at a discount. I'm getting ready to cash in and I want to make sure my cart has everything I need in it before I apply that sweet, sweet discount.

I have on the list.....
- A few more mattress protector sheets (DD1 is still in a crib, which we already purchased.)
- One or two new crib sheets (same purpose)
-New burp cloths (last ones turned into cleaning rags)
-New Pacifiers
-Wipes
-Nursing pads
-Baby clothes hangers
-Baby monitor
-White noise machine

I'm hesitant to stock up on too many diapers until I know what fits. We have bottles from the first kid (should I be replacing the nipples?) I already purchased a double stroller at a pretty good discount. We have an in-tact and unexpired infant car seat & bases. I COULD do more convertible ones for next year, but I feel like I'd rather wait so that I get the most use out of them before they expire.

Is there stuff I'm forgetting? This list feels super short.

Hi all! @TheTamedShrew posted about thirdhand smoke the other day & how to handle the delicate subject. It got me to thinking: What's the best way of warning would-be visitors of our personal standpoints on this, without having to repeat ourselves a billion times and also give people plenty of notice before they visit?

I thought that maybe an overall "Visitor Policy" Facebook post would be the best plan of action. Something like...

"Baby is here and we're so excited! We know everyone wants to see him, but we do have a few requests for anyone wanting to visit. These are:"

And then cite guidelines for smokers, etc. In addition to our smoking guidelines (must wash hands, must come in clothes unexposed to smoke, must wear towel over torso), I wondered about other guidelines as well. I would hope that no one would come if they had recently been sick, but wondered if I should specify that, too? Then I got to thinking about older siblings. With our first, we asked people to leave their older children at home because we were in the middle of flu season and were paranoid first-time parents. But now we have an older child, so I wonder if the moratorium on older kid visitors is useless and/or asking too much.

So what do you think? Do you think a public Facebook message putting guidelines on visitors is tacky? Too much? Just enough so people feel informed? I'm not crazy about the influx of visitors that come with a new baby anyway, so maybe this is a way to turn people OFF from visiting... That sounds terrible. o_O

I've had them on and off. Mostly, they're related to being home bound with the exception of work and meeting up with friends about once a week. And seeing my bf of course, but we don't do much but watch tv and eat lately! Before I was working out every day, going and doing stuff all the time, always had plans, traveling a lot, etc. I don't have the energy for all that these days.

Also, I've been having difficulty sleeping and on those days, I actually feel less down. Because all day at work I daydream about laying down, and I'm pretty content when I can finally do so. Today I'm actually well-rested and because of that, bummed about not having plans for the next couple of weeks. We're going to go to a baseball game this weekend, so that's something.

Tonight probably just tv and dinner. And truthfully I don't want to do anything else anyway. But I'm still mildly depressed about never wanting to do anything! It's a weird conundrum. Also I don't really have 'shows' and I never know what to watch, because I never stayed at home before to get into anything on tv or Netflix. I always busied myself with plans with friends/family or managing my side 'business' (airbnb). I almost look forward to the stress of taking care of a newborn- I definitely won't be bored!

So I had another ultrasound tuesday at 31.2 weeks. (I get growth scans because I have multiple sclerosis) I talked to my doctor and she said the baby is over 4 lbs and in the 95th percentile. She said it could be genetics or she may need to test my sugar again if the baby still is on the large side at the next ultrasound. (I passed the glucose test with flying colors) Being a FTM I don't really know what this all means. Should I cut back on my sugar? Is my baby still healthy? Could it mean a c section down the road? TIA!
