Hi Ladies, can anyone recommend a good place to catch-up with friends, where the kids would also be entertained (ie. run around & play with things)? I'll be meeting 3 of my college roommates in Columbus the Saturday after Thanksgiving. We all have young children (1.5-6) and Columbus is a good central location, but since none of us are from there...it's tough to know where the "kid-friendly" places are. Any suggestions would be very helpful...Thanks!!
Neither of us currently can get group health insurance that will cover the cost of having a baby. I have an individual plan and it will cost me 3x what i pay, plus a waiting period to get insurance that will cover everything. I have heard of clinics at Riverside and Grady hospital but I can't find any information on the cost.

How are you ladies paying for everything if you dont have insurance through your employer? Also, we do not qualify for any goverment help. Thanks for your thoughts and feedback.

We just moved to Ohio from Texas, and I've been DESPERATELY looking for a decent hair salon close by that wont charge an arm and a leg to get work done. I came across this place called Salon Ventures, and found Jamie who I now refer lovingly to as my super surrogate hair mommy. She offers 20% off for first time customers, and a complimentary foot soak ( complete with candles and yummy smelling shea butter) AND a complementary head and neck massage. PERFECT! The salon has a seperate room for every stylist, and the chair swivels to the sink and back, so no getting up and down to walk to the sink and dryer!! YAY! I got a shampoo, cut, color, style, AND eyebrow wax for 80 bucks, complete with free samples. Plus, she has a basket of chocolate! The good kind too, with Twix and Snickers . If you want her number, message me! She is too good to pass up! Oh, she also works at one in the Wilmington area.

I just scheduled an appointment with a midwife at Associates in Women's Health in Sylvania. My midwife will be Jonelea Thomas. Anyone use her for delivery?

When I had my daughter at Toledo Hospital, I was very disappointed with the doctor who delivered. It was not my normal doc, which I was expecting to happen anyways. She wouldn't let me deliver in the position I wanted to. I had come up with a birth plan and went over it with my doctor before. She didn't seem to have a problem with it. And on my birth plan I said I want to be able to deliver in any position that's comfortable for me. I tried kneeling on the bed and holding onto the top of the bed (sort of on all fours). It relieved the pain in my back so much! But, she only let me go through a couple contractions like that and then said she has never delivered a baby upside down so I would have to lay on my back. You just catch it woman! You would think a doctor who's delivered probably hundreds of babies would know how to deliver in a different position than on your back, which is more painful for the mom and harder for the baby to come out. I ended up tearing (cause I said no way to an episiotomy!) My friend was with me in the room. She isn't a certified midwife, but she's delivered or helped deliver hundreds of babies and has had 12 herself (11 of them at home). She said if I would have been able to deliver on all fours the baby probably would have come out faster and I wouldn't have torn or been in so much pain, cause I did it natural. Sorry, I'm venting. I'm a little bitter! haha!

Anyways I decided I wanted a midwife who would be more open to that type of stuff. I asked when I set up the appointment if they will deliver in any position and she said, yes of course! So I'm relieved by that. I'm not pregnant right now, but my husband and I are probably going to start trying to get pregnant again soon. But, also my sister-in-law is pregnant and made an appointment with the same office. So she's pretty much wondering the same things I am.

For anyone who has used this midwife or another one at this office, just wondering how the delivery went. Were they open to different things as far as positions and whatnot? Are they more doctor-minded or more geared toward you and the baby? It just seems like a lot of doctors don't really care about you so much, they just want to do their job, deliver the baby and get out of there. Instead of focusing on you and the baby and what's best for you.

Okay, sorry this was so long! Thanks for any input!

Before I got pregnant, I would actively pursue it with my husband...he'd even turn me down sometimes! But since I've become pregnant, I'm having the worst time with my sex drive! My husband's been amazing during the whole pregnancy. He tells me all the time how attractive he finds me (even with my swollen ankles and extra 20 pounds!) and is constantly seeking that affection and bond we used to have pre-pregnancy. But I'm finding it so hard to get in the mood for him. Even kissing sometimes completely grosses me out! I hate feeling this way! I want my old sex drive back! I know they say that it will dip and then pick right back up during the pregnancy but I feel like I haven't wanted it since I was 8 weeks...I'm terrified I might never want it again...Please help! Suggestions, comments, people who've been through it themselves...I'm really in need of some helpful ideas...

Hello all you lovely Toledo bumpies!!! I have started my search for Day Care and wanted to see if anyone had any recommendations. I have only checked out one center (St. Chalres Child Development Ctr) and it was nice, the people were very nice, but the place kind of smelled...so DH and I are like...ummm...maybe we should keep looking... I realize it was the end of the day and they have a ton of kids in there all day, but still, wasn't the best first impression. Also, they have a high infant to staff ratio (2:10), which I didn't love. The place was recommended by a friend of a friend, so I am sure they are good, but would like to check out some more places before making a decision. We live on the west side (Lasky-Lewis area) and I work downtown - so it would be ideal if it wasn't too far from there...

He really wants to travel, but everything he comes up with is either a really long drive (i.e. Chicago) or involves sitting in the hot sun all afternoon (i.e. Reds game). Anyone have any weekend getaways from Columbus - 3 hours or less drive time - that an uncomfortable pregnant woman could survive?

I am actually required to wear panty hose. Did you have any luck finding maternity hose? Destination Maternity has them but they run out of stock fast. I am now in a pinch b/c I am out of them. I tried the XL and they are still to tight around my belly (I am at the end of my 7th month). They currently have no other sizes in stock. I even went to Lane Bryant thinking I could just buy really big hose but all they have is Spanex brand which are not recommended for pregnant bellies.

Any suggestions on how to find pantyhose that actually fit? I am 8 months.

Through out my pregnancy, my Mom seems to be the one with the crazy pregnancy hormones. She is constantly telling me how I need to raise my unborn son. She forgets I am the one with the Early Childhood Education degree. Lately, she has been on a kick about baby shoes. My feelings are if people want to buy Gavin (LO's name) shoes, they can. I am not going to buy them until he is beginning to cruise or walk. She insists I need them to protect his feet. From what? My chihuahuas licking them? Then she moves on to how I have to get his first shoes bronzed. Another thing I am not interested in. She and my Dad had mine bronzed and they are currently at my Dad's house collecting dust.

Does anyone still get their child's shoes bronzed anymore? Am I depriving Gavin?

Hi I'm new to posting in these forums just realized there was a columbus board (go figure.) anyhow I was curious if any of you ladies have previously given birth at Riverside Methodist Hospital, I'm still fairly new to the area and I've had to deal with them once so far when my husband had to go to the E.R.

They of course were very friendly, some of them had a sense of humor, and it seemed they did things in a timely enough manner except for the fact they moved him to like 4 different rooms and he could barely walk and was under heavy narcotics so that didn't make things easy plus he had a nice incision on his backside and they had one male nurse to help get my husband (who was quite larger than this guy.) from one bed to another, plus they had me but I'm 5 months pregnant, so I was disappointed with their "high quality care" when it came to transferring patients from one bed to another, what would've happened if he fell?

Anyhow I'm just curious since I haven't had my maternity ward tour yet what anyone elses experiences are so I can be prepared for what to expect or not to expect. I don't want to get my hopes up and find out it's miserable like the last time I delivered in GA.

I saw in the post below that you see Dr. Maffett - she was recommended to me by my former GYN who no longer practices OB. Which Drs at that practice did you like vs didn't like? I'm a little concerned about how recently she started practicing, but DH feels like that means she'll be more up-to-date on recent findings, etc. I would love to hear more about her and what you think of the practice as a whole? Does she deliver at both Riverside or Dublin Methodist? I assume that if you deliver in the middle of the night you get whichever Dr is on call? There's a fairly good chance I'll need a C-section, although I'd prefer a vaginal birth, so that matters to me too.

Anyway, any insight you can offer would be much appreciated! Thanks!!!
