Hi ladies!

Let me start by introducing myself. I'm Elizabeth, from south Mississippi. I'm 30 weeks tomorrow, due on May 28th! I'm a ftm, and my husband and I could not be more excited!

I'm a very frequent lurker, but not poster (I'm sorry!) However, I'd really like to get more active on here. I see so many of you have made great friendships, and I really have no mommy friends to talk to!

So! My question is, how do you feel after a long day when you know you've done too much? I've been running around a lot today, preparing for dh's bday. I just showered and when I got out, I got VERY flushed, a cold sweat came over me, my heart was racing and I had some very low cramps. Have any of you ever suddenly felt this way? It went away after sitting and drinking water, but it definitely scared me a little!

So I just found out (after filling out the preregistration) that while my doctor is in network, the hospital she has privileges at no longer is. I switched insurance companies at the beginning of this pregnancy and specifically chose one that my OB accepted (she delivered my first baby and it was a complicated delivery so we have great relationship and a lot of trust). It's looking like my only option is to switch doctors at 31 weeks! This makes me so uncomfortable... And I'm seriously stressing. Anyone had this happen? Any advice?

Hi Ladies!
Anyone ever developed abscesses during pregnancy? I developed one last year in June (before I got pregnant) on my back and it was painful, but drained on its own. I was on antibiotics. This time, I developed one on my neck and it literally just popped up and later that evening, burst and is draining. I don't feel much pain, but I cannot recall if this is dangerous untreated or let it drain the infection out. Yes, I plan to call my doctor when the office opens, but I wanted to know if anyone else has had this happen.

It's been "normal" the whole pregnancy and was 140/90 yesterday, but the in office test didn't show any protein in my urine. Anyone else going through this or been through it before? Wondering what the possible outcomes are from this point and if it's possible everything is okay and I will be able to make it to close to 40 weeks, fingers crossed!

Guess what my 100% Italian 1st generation American husband's favorite meal is?

Corned beef and cabbage of course! Every year I go all out to make the best corned beef dinner. Last night I was making Guiness beer bread, I got up early to start the brisket (which I corned myself this year!) and I just rushed home to make sure I could get the potatoes and carrots in. I don't think MH is expecting it because we are going to a St. Patrick's Day party this weekend where I know there will be soda bread and yes, corned beef. But this man could literally eat this meal every single day of his life! I love it because I am not the best cook and this was the one meal I could make that was (God forgive me) better than his mother's. So even though I have not a drop of Irish blood in me, I love St. Patrick's Day!

Anyone else have any fun traditions?

It's not that I am anti-social or anything, but I have a very hard time making female friends. Most of my friends back home are male. Actually after making this statement I can't name one actual female friend that I speak with more than once a year ( if that ) that isn't related to me. I moved from Rhode Island to Oregon then to Canada and now I am in New Zealand. I have avoided making male friends in NZ because I don't think MH would love the idea of me hanging out with a bunch of dudes so I have limited my male friend list to 'the guys' back home and he seems ok with that.

Now that I am venturing in to mommy-hood I find myself with a major issue . . . I have no girl friends, let alone friends with kids. Where do you meet mom ladies?! The park I guess? What the heck do I say to them? " Uh . . . Nice kid ya got there." I guess I should have thought about this sooner but I feel like I am going to now end up with friends (assuming I can find them!) that I have nothing in common with other than having a child. This may seem like a real lame problem but I really don't want to end up at Lucine's first birthday with no one but Me, MH and MH's other kids. So, not only do I need mom friends but I need some little play-date babies for her to socialize with. She isn't going into Daycare but I have considered maybe using the local short term drop off center and letting her chill there for a few hours a week down the track. Good idea or no?

Anyone else ever have this issue? How did you make and find mommy friends?

Just wanted to check how others are testing their after meal numbers. My OB had asked to test it after 2 hours of starting the meal .i.e if I start my dinner at 8, I should finish it in 30 mins and test blood sugar at 10. Is this how everyone tests? Just want to confirm incase I misunderstood my OB instructions

She's referring me to a high risk doc, and told me to drink a lot of water and watch my carb intake until I see a nutritionist. I'd like to hear from some other moms on this--have you tested positive as a FTM? or have you had it with past pregnancies? I'm trying not to let the news scare me, but naturally I'm worried, and I especially don't want a C-sec (I'm 30w).

Since the working mamas board is super slow these days, I
figured I’d try to get some advice here. I apologize in advance for the rambling.

A little back story on me. I have a degree in public
relations with experience working in social media marketing, event planning
etc. I ended up going back to school for nursing before I got pregnant but
never finished (long story there, but I plan to go back after I have children
and they’re all school aged.) Anyway, once school ended, I couldn’t find
anything in my field, so I jumped into a receptionist job just to have
SOMETHING. I planned to keep my feelers out for something in PR, then got
pregnant shortly after. I should’ve kept looking but I have had a very tough
pregnancy (morning sickness almost the whole time, GD, and other issues that
make me high risk). I didn’t want to start a job and have to miss all kinds of
work then have to ask for maternity leave on top of that. Anyway, the pay here
SUCKS. My husband fortunately takes on all of the bills and my money is just
extra, but I plan to pay for child care and necessities for the baby so it
doesn’t all fall back on him. After daycare, I’ll have very little left over. I
have made triple this pay in PR type jobs in the past, so I know they are out
there. I also want to feel proud of myself again and accomplished, and I just
don’t feel that here.

One of the biggest issues is the coworker I share an office
with, but that would be a novel in itself. I know you all know how hard it is
being hormonal, uncomfortable, in pain and just done, and her negativity and
attitude toward me and everyone else leaves me so down every single day. My
boss also “cannot believe I have so many doctor’s appointments, nobody else
goes to the doctor that much when they are pregnant,”..etc. That alone has me
about done. Every time I tell her about my next appointment she gets mad, rolls her eyes and shakes her head.

The moral of this whole story is, I want to quit my job. I
planned to job search during my maternity leave, but here’s the other issue. We
don’t get a traditional maternity leave here, you have to use sick time and
vacation. Since I’ve only been here right at a year, I had about 2 weeks of
that saved up. Now, I’m having to do NST’s every week and having to use a half
day of vacation each time. This means I will have no paid time leave left once
baby is here. I would still get a paycheck, but I’d have to pay it all back as
I got it (don’t ask me why they just don’t pay you!)

I have about 6 weeks left till my due date but I’m most
likely going to get induced. Here’s where I need advice. Do I just give my notice
2 weeks before my due date (my husband’s suggestion), or would you just stay till you have the baby and quit during “maternity leave”? Either way, I plan to do seriously job searching
while on leave, and don’t want to come back here. I feel like it would be nicer
of me to do it before so they could look for someone and not waste time waiting
for me to come back. I feel like if I do that, though, she will make me work up
until I’m practically crowning at my desk to let me start my leave. If I do
choose to go that route and stay till maternity leave, what are the rules about
when that starts?

What have others done? Told your boss “I’m working till
X day” or had a doctor’s note or what? I’m just not sure I’ll last here till my due
date!

Since attending our natural child birth classes and researching natural child birth stories I have almost completely made my mind up about switching to delivery my baby at a birth center instead of the hospital in my town. The birth center is down the street from the hospital so very close in the case of an emergency. Do any mothers with natural birth stories have experience delivering at a birth center? It is such a cheaper option when it comes to finances and the midwife at this center is very experienced and has delivered many babies of family and friends of mine. Basically, I want to deliver my child in an environment that supports my desire to have a natural child birth. My research has made me believe that delivering in a hospital gives you more chances of interventions happening and your birth plan changing (not always because of medically necessary reasons).

Since I have 8 weeks till my due date I'm trying to get all my work logistics figured out. Does anyone have advice advocating for telecommuting at their work? I've brought it up my boss before but he's not very supportive of it. It's something I would have to strongly advocate for. After researching more about pumping at work I'm worried it's more difficult than I imagined and it could help me make a case to telecommute. Does anyone have insight or ideas to make a case for myself? Our building is very old and we do not have break-rooms with a kitchen sink, people clean coffee mugs in the bathroom, I don't want to clean my pump in the bathroom! We also don't have laptops so I would be wasting up to an hour a day at work pumping, where at home I could be in-front of my computer and pump. I'm hoping to advocate for 1-2 days a week to help make the transition easier. All my tasks can be completed remotely and I would still make myself available for meetings. Other departments are starting to do trial telecommuting but mine is lagging behind. I have telecommuted before and know how to manage my time. I would have LO with an in-home nanny or near by where I could go feed him at least once a day.

Any ideas appreciated!

I freaked out and was so worried about baby!

Arrived in hospital and it took more than 7 hours (!!!!!) until I could finally get an ultrasound and therefore a confirmation that baby is ok!!! I could not believe how long it took!

In the ultrasound they saw i had placenta previa, so my placenta covers my cervical opening entirely. This would have caused the bleed.

They gave me another appointment for Monday and basically said not to worry, but it has to be monitored..

I did some reading about this, and it seems like it is very common??? And in most cases, it just fixes itself???

If not, it is pretty scary though!!!!

Does anyone else have this? What recommendations did you get???

I am not sure if I should be scared or not...

If it is so common, I am surely not the only one! Anyone else out there?

xx

How many clothes in each size is everyone prepping for? Laundry is a once a week thing for us being 2 floors away from bedrooms. I find lots of posts online but they're mostly for winter babies... I got lots of 3mo onesies and outfits for my shower, and stupidly removed the tags on my excitement to fill the closet... I only have 2 newborn size outfits, gifted with the tags on. A bunch of 6mo things and just a few things beyond that, all gifts. So where is everyone else at with all this?

I was lurking on other BMB and saw that they posted/pinned the Birth Announcement thread for all to share their arrivals earlier than the actual expected birth month for those born a little early. (Not that I want any of these LO's to come too early but some of us are well into the 3rd trimester) so I thought maybe it would be a good idea for ours to be posted and pinned by admin just in case! They seem to have all copy and pasted a set of rules to attach with the thread like only posting your birth announcement and "loving" others just to refrain from all the "Congrats!" comments that would clog up the thread. I know we also talked about doing our own announcement threads when our time comes that welcomes any and all comments. So just a thought if any of you ladies agree and want to volunteer to post this exciting thread!
