My DH brought up the option to go to third shift so that the baby will not be in daycare. There will be a slight pay increase, but it would put him working overnights and me during the day.

We have the money for daycare- I'm wondering for those of you who have done it, what was the effect it has on your family and your marriage? I just don't know if it's worth it-- do I prioritize our time as a family of three or the fact that I know my baby is bonding with my DH if I can't be there?

I I know the benefits for daycare, but he is saying this would be a one year things.

Thoughts appreciated!!

-- Soft
-- Durable
-- Inexpensive (money isn't tight, but it seems silly to spend a ton on onesies - willing to be convinced otherwise though)
-- No "cute sayings" if possible

Anybody have brands they prefer? Also, for an early May baby in DC -
am I right in thinking that she won't need much in newborn/3 mo size
besides short sleeved onesies and some swaddler things?

Is anyone else thinking about/already made the decision about getting their tubes tied? Since I'm getting a RCS its a definite option for us if we want to take it. We have a 2.5 yr old daughter and having a son this time around.

I work full time, DH works full time and goes to school part time and will do so for the coming years. Our plates are full as it is and we're going to have to learn how to juggle another when he arrives! Financially there is no way we could do 3 in daycare. I also really don't want to continue taking birth control for the next 15+ years.

So, it seems our decision of not wanting more kids is pretty clear, but for some
reason I'm having a really tough time actually making the commitment. It seems
so permanent. I keep thinking of worst case scenarios that are so unlikely (loss of child, divorce, etc). Anyone else in the same boat? If you made the decision already, how did you overcome the "what-ifs"?

hey ladies.... I'm 35 weeks today and have been having consistent contractions for the past hour! They started a little before 8 pm and after a few of them I decided to download a contraction timing app and track them. I tracked my first contraction at 8:11 pm and it lasted for a little over a minute. Since then I have had contractions every 3-8 minutes, each lasting a little over a minute long (with the exception of two of those contractions which lasted only a little over 30 seconds). According to my timing app, the *average* is 1:04 long and 4:55 apart which makes me feel uneasy because of the 5-1-1 rule.

...but here is the thing that is throwing me for a loop! They're really not very painful. They're definitely uncomfortable and a little bit painful especially when I move or touch my stomach but I can easily talk through them and they're really just not that bad. Is this enough to call the on-call midwife on the "emergency" line or is it probably ok to wait til morning (office closed)?? I hate bugging the midwife after hours if it's unnecessary when other women certainly need her more! I don't like to call at all unless it's truly necessary, especially after hours!

hello ladies, I tried to use the search feature and lurk around but couldn't really find an answer to my question.

Im 34 weeks 6 days, this is my first pregnancy that has made it past second trimester so I haven't ever experienced contractions or labour or any of the fun things going on in the third trimester. I know that Braxton hicks contractions can be expected and rather common, but I'm unsure if that's what is going on?

Basically a few times this afternoon my stomach/lower back have felt a bit crampy. If I'm being honest Each time I have sort of thought that maybe I needed to have a BM. I go to go to the washroom and after about a minute or so that sensation is gone. It doesn't hurt necessarily, but it has happened twice in the last half hour or so and so it seems more frequent. My babe has been head down for 3-4 weeks already and lately I am getting A LOT of lightning crotch. But I'm really not sure what Braxton hicks feel like so I'm unsure if that's what happening or if I'm just over reacting!

In your experience what do the Braxton hicks feel like? thanks!

My weight gain has been pretty constant throughout pregnancy. Now that I'm in the third trimester, my weight gain has usually been about 2-3 pounds each time I go to my doctor's appointment (I go every two weeks). However, when I went in today (32 wk appt), I found out that I gained six pounds in two weeks!!! I never weigh myself at home because it just gives me another thing to worry about, but I have been eating and exercising exactly the same amount for the past two weeks as I have throughout, so needless to say I was pretty shocked to see that number on the scale. Even my doctor was surprised. She said she is not worried because it hasn't happened before, but I am wondering if this has happened to any of you other moms out there late in your pregnancy!

I know this subject has been mentioned time and time again, but when I do a search, I don't find anything specific.

I always planned to not tell anyone other than my mom (and obviously husband) I was in labor. Originally we were going to tell his dad (who he's super close to), but when we found out we were pregnant and told him right away, he told EVERYONE despite us asking him to keep it a secret. After that, we agreed to just let him know once I was about to deliver, knowing he'd tell the whole world.

Well, a family friend of mine just had a baby last week and her grandpa (who is close friends with my grandpa) didn't find out about her delivering till 4 hours after the fact. She lost a lot of blood and it was touch and go for a while, so obviously, their concern was not, "let's call everyone and tell them the baby was born!" It was all about making sure she and baby were totally okay. I would've done the same thing. WELL, our grandfathers gossip like old women and my grandma tells my mom, in the most dramatic fashion, how obscene this is and how she cannot believe so and so didn't tell him the second she went into labor, etc.

We have mentioned casually how we don't want a big production at the hospital, our hospital's waiting room is VERY small, I don't want extra stress, etc. I guess we have to be more direct though. When my SIL was induced at midnight last year, all DH's sisters, aunts, grandparents, etc. were at the hospital by 6am. I refuse to let this happen. I wouldn't mind letting people know I am in labor but I have a feeling they just won't be able to help themselves. DH also has a family member who updates Facebook just about every hour, with things no one needs to know (ex: I got into a fight with my husband last night, he just doesn't get how hard I work and I'm sick of it!..etc) If I don't even want family members, friends knowing my status in labor, I surely don't want her random Facebook friends knowing. I also think my grandparents expect it to just be our small little happy family there once the baby is born and they'll be able to waltz right in and I'll be bright eyed and bushy tailed and they can hold and love on the baby for as long as they want. DH's immediate family is huge. I am already having anxiety about the possibility of a long and exhausting labor and delivery and having to lie there while 20+ people shuffle in and out loudly through our room as they please. It's also important to us to have uninterrupted time with just my husband and I and the baby. Grandparents are old school and don't see why we shouldn't just go straight from L&D to allowing them full access.

Anyway, my mom thinks I should mention our labor plans for Easter, since it'll just be my immediate family and I'll only have to say it once. DH is working away this week, so it'll just be me. My question is, what would you say? I don't want to hurt their feelings but I DO want my husband's and my wishes respected. Is there a way to do this and achieve both? Let me know what has worked for you!

I looked for a thread- not very thoroughly- but didn't see one on this subject. I was wondering if anyone was in college or taking classes that they'll have to postpone? I'm in school to be a Pharmacy Technician which is a 9 month course and I started it when I was 5 weeks pregnant. Because of the way classes are set up my last day will be May 9th even though im not due until May 26th and I'll have to wait until the next start date- or start date after that- to finish my last 6 week long externship. This means I could go up to 13 weeks (there is a 1 week break between the start breaks I'll be missing) being out of school and 19 weeks with no pay. (Because if I'm lucky I'll get an extern go hire position within a pharmacy) This also means that because I'm currently not working to focus on school I have no paid maternity leave and will be relying solely on SO's income for this time period. Is anyone else going through this? If so, how are you handling it? What's your plan?
ETA : to add time specific information

Hello, fellow bumpers!

Anyone been having phantom tooth pain since the 2nd trimester? for me, it started with gums that would get so irritated, I couldn't chew! The strange thing is that the pain would subside the next day and wouldn't emerge again until weeks later! The doc just said it was hormonal and such.
Fast forward to the last two days, I'd had a toothache on my last molar radiating to the tooth at the bottom. I think it's a cavity untreated, or at least I thought so. I gave the doc on call a ring and he said to just use Tylenol and if I had a fever or if the pain got worse, to go to the ER. Mind you, yesterday was Good Friday and hence, my dentist is closed until MONDAY. Ugh! Basically I was told to monitor it and go to the ER if it got worse. The pain wasn't severe and I could chew on that side, but it did react to cold drinks so I imagine it was a cavity or whatnot. I was just worried that it might be infected and baby might be in trouble.
Strange thing is today, NO PAIN. Nothing. Like if it was some kind of dream. Now, I did put some of that dental filling that is sold at Walmart (since I do feel a small gap in between my teeth, but they could have shifted because I did have a tooth removed in that row) last night s o it may have covered the exposed cavity.
Anyone had experience with this? Does your pain come and go or is it constant? I wont see my dentist until next week.
And this is less fur-baby related, and more human-baby, so here goes: (And yes, as a lawyer, I am ashamed I only started thinking about all this sometimes last week)

(1) What kind of legal things are we expected to do for our babies once they're born?
I already know of registering for their birth certificates, SSN and applying for passports after the former two things come in. Added to this, there is a rule of 30-31 days (depending on your insurance) whereby your baby is covered through you, during which you have to register them under their own names/pay the new premium.

Is there anything I am missing?

(2) This one's for STMs - How long did it take for the BC/SSN to come in?

Nothing excruciating. Usually just right when I wake up like I'm clenching my teeth in my sleep or something. Should I go get it taken care of or should I wait ? I've been reading a bunch of things online saying the dentist can't really do much for me this far along. I'm not thinking infection since it doesn't hurt constantly.
Just reaching out to see if there's any orthodox moms on here not celebrating Easter this weekend?

What is your background?

What are you doing instead?

My family is Greek. Im relaxing enjoying my long weekend. At home we joke it's Greek spring cleaning weekend. My baby is technically due Easter Monday which would be pretty cool. Either way, don't think we'll be having big Easter celebrations this year. Might try to make it to church if I'm able to though.

Confessions!!

My SIL invited us for Easter yesterday. There is so much stress and drama in that house that I just cannot. Her father spends the meal talking about shooting people to death in Vietnam (we was either a sniper or a pilot or a range of other things depending on the day) and then gets mad and demands to leave mid-meal when he doesn't get enough attention. Every single meal. My nieces bicker constantly and text on their phones. My SIL sucks.

Soooo....I lied my face off and said that we had a house full of people coming for dinner. We have one friend coming over. Yup, on one of the holiest days of the year I lied to get out of family time Not even sorry. Nope.

Plus she couldn't have really wanted us to be there anyway if she asked 3 days beforehand...right??

Ten Things Tuesday... Let's hear em!

1. I had a scary day yesterday. I spent most of the day at the OB because I was having painful contractions, cramping and nausea. A non stress test was ordered, they did a test to rule out preterm labor and I had a cervical check. Cervix was nice and closed (thank God!) but the lab lost the test (fetal fibronectin) so I had to go back in for a cervical length ultrasound. At the end of the day, Baby is doing well and contractions have simmered down and I am tired!

2. Did I mention I'm moving this Friday? Haha. When the Dr told me to rest I almost laughed. I did indeed rest but I'm stressing out about how everything is going to get done. Can I borrow someone's magic wand?

3. Per #2, my time on TB has been so limited because of life lately.

4. I have a bad habit of not opening my mail. I have some important paperwork that needs to be completed and I feel like I'm kind of crumbling under the pressure of life lately.

5. I need a vacation.

Happy Tuesday!

My goal this pregnancy has always been to spend three days a week on the treadmill for an hour and do Insanity twice per week for a total of 5 days of exercise. At best, I do 4 days, and after getting sick earlier this month, it seems like it's only been 3 days a week (2 days on the treadmill and 1 day of insanity). I was running at the beginning of my pregnancy, but by October, I was only walk/running. Now, I'm lucky if I can run for 1 minute without feeling like I'm going to die. Also, Insanity has been going fine with only a few modifications. Now I walk for an hour on an slight incline at about a 4.1-4.3 mph pace.

However, this week (Week 32), I feel I may need to make some adjustments. I think my Insanity days may be coming to an end. I can still do push ups and many of the exercises, but anything that involves jumping up or jumping down either gives me a stomach cramp or major back pain. And now on the treadmill, I feel like the baby is going to fall out. I'm so thankful that we have a treadmill at home that is just a few feet from the bathroom because I probably got off about 4 times in my hour walk this morning to go to the bathroom. I think next week I may put away the Insanity DVDs and bust out the pregnancy strength training DVDs. I'm worried this will mean my weight gain will not be as steady, but I think it's great I made it to 32 weeks doing Insanity. At this point, I just want to be able to continue to walk without that baby falling out sensation. I have a doctor's appointment today, so I'm going to just ask and make sure that feeling isn't something I should be too concerned with and more just some discomfort.

I do have a new workout these days, and that's attempting to get off the couch at night to either go to the bathroom or bed. I refuse to let my husband help me because I want don't want to feel that out of whack, but it takes a good 5-10 minutes of rolling around to figure out the best way to stand up without making my back and/or stomach hate me.

His mom has requested to "help" after delivery now which I declined bc its my first baby, I want to get to know her and I don't want to feel responsible for my mil when Iget home from the hospital, probably Iin pain, probably sleep deprived. Dh freaked out and said his mom had a right to be there. Long story short, theyll be there 5 days straight the moment I get out of the hospital. Am I overreacting or would you be stressed out about this as well? Can't sleep right now bc the thought of having to make conversation and being observed allthe time is killing me.

I am a STM and having some fears hopefully someone can give me advise, from personal experiences... I work an hour from home and 2 hours from work. I work about 60 hours a week and I am always busy...I know with my first daughter I went about a week over my due date and ended up leaving a work a month before I was due. This time my boss has made it clear I am only taking 12 weeks off. Starting the day I leave. so I am not asking for exact days or anything but I am almost 33 weeks now and I am feeling just drained and aches and pains more then what I remember with my first...How common is it to go early the second time? I know every pregnancy is different just seeing if anyone has statistics like with first time moms typically go late...

The last thing I expected my OB group to do was give me an option on the day I want to schedule my c-s! I agreed to have a c-s at 37 weeks due to a previous classical (vertical) incision. 37 weeks is Saturday, May 7th. However, c-sections are not scheduled on the weekends, so she gave me the option of Friday, May 6th or Monday, May 9th.

I believe the extra 3 days will be very important to my still-cooking kiddo, but I also recognize that for our family and especially DH, a Friday c-s would give us more time together. He plans to take 1 full week off - So starting on a Friday would give him like 10 days with new baby. It would also be perfect for my out-of-town family to come in to meet the baby and be out of our hair by the time we go home from the hospital.

Is this a really easy question (pick Monday!) in order to best advocate for the new baby?

hello all!! I'm 34 w 1 d pregnant and have had very light and random Braxton hicks for weeks and weeks now but recently I've been having them all night long / for hours during the night and they're keeping me awake. They're very uncomfortable and even a little painful and make laying on my side uncomfortable because my stomach hurts to touch during a contraction!! The other night I had them from 8 pm until 5:45 am and slept minimally. They're starting up again now and I'm dreading the night! But I know that they are Braxton hicks and not labor because eventually they stop.

I know that the common recommendation for Braxton hicks is to drink a bunch of water and/or lay down for a bit/change positions however I have tried both of these and neither stop, slow or affect my contractions at all! Does anyone have any suggestions to help me through these sleepless nights?

TIA!

hello all! so I was googling because I've been having some lower menstrual type cramps and the pain has been radiating to my thighs which is pretty uncomfortable ! I read this is engagement pain as the baby drops into position and your pelvic bone is spreading. This is my second pregnancy and technically I am only 31 weeks due to measurement but would be 33 weeks with original due date ! anyone else experiencing this?

Since It's 10 minutes to Wednesday, I'll start. WTF to me. Tonight I went home & my dogs had gotten sick all over their crate. So I pick up their blankets, CAREFULLY start down the basement stairs while walking slowly & holding the railing...and fall anyway. Now I'm in the hospital hooked up to monitoring & having contractions. Thankfully baby looks amazing, his heart is strong, & all the blood work looks good. I have 2 more hours until I can get off the monitor. This was not how I saw my night going.

I am due May 15th and I have been saying that I plan to work up until my due date or until I deliver.. as of recently I am starting to change my mind as my body gets slower, my pains get worse and my swelling worsens as well. Right now I am thinking maybe by the 1st of May I will be ready to throw in the towel and start my 12 weeks leave. I hate thinking that I'm giving up two extra weeks that could be potentially spent with LO, I guess it all depends the closer to my date and seeing how I feel. I also don't want to sit home and do nothing for two weeks so I'm hoping maybe that time could still be spent being productive at home. I also think I would rather be at home in case my water breaks or I start going into labor. I know all these things vary and can change day by day. Just anxious to see where I am 5 weeks from now. Have any of you other working mommas now or in the past changed your mind about how far you worked? Did you feel your time with LO was still long enough? and what did you do if you stayed home a week or so before LO arrived?
