Hi everyone, this is my second pregnancy and my 1st was 9lbs but I never had an ultrasound to determine size. This time around my midwife wanted me to get one because she wasn't sure if baby was head down and she also wanted to see size because my last delivery was hard on me. My question is how accurate are they at guessing size? Just wondering if anyone else had them in a previous pregnancy and how accurate it was. I went for it this morning and thankfully he is head down and he's measuring 6lbs 9ounces I have a week and 5 days left till due date

Hey ladies! Google isn't helping me figure out what could be wrong so I wanted to see if any of you have experienced the same issue. (In fact, the only forums I can find on google are people explaining the same pain but then explaining that their doctors couldn't help.) I am 38 weeks + 1 day today, but I'm not sure if this pain is related to the pregnancy or not.
This morning I woke up with extreme pain just below my breastbone in the very center of my upper-belly. This is the second time this week that it has happened. If I try to move or sit up at all then it feels like someone is taking a shard of glass and stabbing me. If I lay completely still then it doesn't hurt. It is all focused in a small space just below my chest and almost feels like there may be a knot or ball (however, I cannot massage it away nor feel a lump). It lasted about 20 minutes each time it occurred with me slowly moving a little bit every 5 minutes to see if it was gone yet (at the risk of me cringing in agony if it was not gone). Then after 20 minutes it just disappears as if nothing was wrong.
I wanted to ask you ladies because I've never heard of anything like this before, and because it's not consistent I didn't want to go to the hospital and potentially be turned away. I have no idea if it's serious or just a symptom of my body being stretched to accommodate baby.
I do have an OB appointment on Friday but I'm dreading the wait because I don't want this to happen again. Has anyone heard of this or know what it could possibly be/know any solutions so it doesn't happen again?

Hi Ladies,
I just wanted to let you know to be careful. This thing can come on suddenly without any prior warning or signs. All my labs were normal, blood pressure, etc. I had no signs and symptoms. I went to the ER Friday morning because I thought I was having gallbladder issue. Turned out to be pre eclampsia and Hellp Syndrome. I ended up in the ICU and my baby had to be taken via C Section at 34 weeks and is currently in the NICU. It is really scary how it can come on without signs. My doctors were saying it was acid reflux or just muscle strain, or the way the baby was laying. Then when I could not take it anymore I went to the ER and found out. So be careful. It is a life threatening complication.
Today my HR rep told
me that I'm not eligible for nj benefits and ca is iffy bc I just started paying taxes here. So I go on the NJ disability FAQ page and the first question is Do I need to live in nj to get temp disability ? The answer was no, as long as you paid into disability taxes the year prior. Wouldn't that mean im
covered under NJ? I'm so confused by this. If anyone has any clarification / similar situation please let me know. Any info is appreciated! Thanks!

It's ten things Tuesday, or as many things as you can come up with. Let's hear 'em!

1. Ok, I'm going to start with the heaviest one, and move to a lighter note. My DD (2.5) was recently diagnosed with childhood apraxia of speech, a motor planning disorder. I saw it coming because she doesn't have any words at all, but it's hitting me hard. From what I understand, she will go through intensive speech therapy (5 days/week) and she will likely be delayed in reading and writing as well.

2. I feel overwhelmed! I feel like I need more time to work with DD's interventions, and with the next LO on the way in approximately 5 weeks, I just feel like I'm treading water. Any teachers or Speech language pathologists on the board that have insight, I'd love to hear from you.

3. In light of all of this, I'm trying to stay positive and to continue to count my blessings. My family is healthy, we have a baby on the way that I so desperately wanted, I live in a beautiful brand new home, and I drink amazing coffee every morning, haha. Sometimes it's the little blessings that mean the most

4. I couldn't be happier that it's been sunny and mild lately! Bring on the warmer weather.

5. Last week, I wrote a list of things I need to accomplish before my EDD. Yeah, none of them are done yet.

6. I'm a master procrastinator.

7. Every summer we vacation at the beginning of September, just after Labor day. I'm hoping that we will be able to swing it this year. It's just a beach vacation for a week, but being by the water rejuvenates me. I'm really looking forward to it.

8. I feel like a sloth lately. I walk the dog everyday for about a half hour, and that literally takes it out of me for the entire day. I feel so wiped out!

9. I just discovered Aldi (regional store I think) and I love it. They have a lot of organic food choices for cheap and it makes me happy that I afford good nutritious food for my family without spending a fortune.

10. DD and I are heading to the park this morning! Have a great day, everyone

Hey ladies, I know some swelling this far into pregnancy is normal. I'm 28 weeks tomorrow. Last night my SO and I took a 1.5 hour drive and on our way home my feet began hurting and I could tell they were swollen. Tried propping them up on the dash but not much relief. Today as I sit in the tub I realize I have actual cankles. My feet and ankles are swollen with pitting edema. Is this normal? What can I do to get rid of it? Should I call my OB tomorrow or is this to be expected. I go back to work tomorrow and am on my feet a lot of the day, up and down and lots of walking. Thoughts? Anyone else have this?

It got worse over about half an hour until I couldn't see enough to walk around or dial on my phone. Everything is ok, but it turns out I was pretty dehydrated.

Now that it's getting warmer, please be sure to drink plenty of water and get your electrolytes! It wasn't even that hot here and I was drinking a good amount of water already, but I still became dehydrated. And don't ignore any warning signs- I had been having some mild BH all this week, which I knew can be caused by dehydration, but I shrugged it off since I figured I drank enough already.

Also, pedialyte is the friggin' bomb. I've been sipping on it all morning and feel a million times better than I did drinking water alone. Also fantastic for hangovers (or so I've heard.....).

Lol. I never had Braxton hicks contractions so I kept thinking that is what I was feeling. The biggest shock I had was when I was at the hospital. I had no idea I would push with just a nurse in the room until she felt the baby was getting close and then she would finally call the doctor in. I had no idea!

There is something to be said for plain maternal intuition. Although it always has a 50/50 chance right?

I thought it would be fun to list the guess and come back later in pregnancy or after birth to follow up and see if you were right.

So we should be singing to Baby the songs we might use to soothe him when he arrives.

Problem is, I cannot think of a single freaking children's song that I like!

Google isn't much help: I'm finding more contemporary dross than good old standards, and a lot of stuff we just can't sing (I.e. not very melodic a Capella).

Do you ladies have any song suggestions? What are you singing to your little ones?

I've mentioned a couple times that I work in an elementary school library during the afternoon, and a public library during the evenings and weekends during the school year (my schedule is obviously more flexible during the summer when school is out). Between the two jobs I shelve books a *lot*. I know my shelving speed is slower than it used to be due to pregnancy - I can get out of breath from just standing still and explaining various policies etc. when I make a new library card for someone, not to mention the struggle of constantly standing up / squatting down to shelve, my hips hurt, sciatic pain, or just happening to move the wrong way and all of a sudden it hurts to walk. I know you all know what this is like and slowing down / being exhausted in general.

Background: there are two other people that do the same job as me who work mostly during the day, and from what I understand is that the supervisors have them on desk (checking books out, checking books in, helping patrons with questions, etc.) for extended periods of time - at least 2 hours of a 4 - 5 hour shift, so they don't have as much time to shelve which leaves me lately with at least 4 carts (usually more) for night time. Shelving an average cart takes about an hour, I have a 4 hour shift at night, and there are other things I'm expected to do as well. I had mentioned back in January to them that I was having a harder time shelving even then, and the basic response from my supervisor was that they could not make accommodations for me. My supervisor even mentioned how once she had a clerk at another location who had to stop working because she was pregnant. I don't know what the exact situation was there, but I would certainly hope she wasn't forced out just because she was temporarily slowed down by pregnancy.

So, on Thursday night, I got called into the branch manager's office at the public library because she feels I'm not shelving as fast as I used to (wonder why that is), and they depend on me to do a lot of shelving at night when it's quieter so we don't get backed up. The talk had a "go faster or else" tinge to it. Despite the fact that my supervisor told me they wouldn't accommodate me, I still feel completely flabbergasted that they can't even do something as simple as maybe reducing the day time people's desk time so they have a little more time to shelve and thus won't be leaving me quite so much in the evenings, or just understanding that yes, I am going to be slowed down. Of the four higher ups at the branch all of them are over fifty, two are women who have kids, one is a man who has kids, and the branch manager, who has no children, says she understands how hard pregnancy can be on a body because she's the oldest of seven children.

I left that meeting crying, and spent the next four hours of my shift crying on and off and hoping no one saw me. The whole talk really made me feel like a failure that I can't keep up with the work I did before. Talking about it still makes me feel upset. I did make myself move faster and got two and a half carts done within two hours, but there were still two carts left at half an hour before close (didn't help that we had to do a state mandated tornado drill for 20 minutes since I obviously couldn't be out shelving during that time). At the half hour to close is usually when I go around and straighten up the library, but the night supervisor said we couldn't leave two whole carts left so I spent the next 25 minutes busting my way through a cart as quickly as I could which meant that I didn't have time to straighten. I swear to god if I get talked to on Monday about how the library wasn't orderly enough when staff came in on Friday morning I am going to have a breakdown.

DH is furious at the library, and we talked about it with some other family members on both sides and they all feel it's ridiculous as well. I feel all around bad about myself over it which DH finds frustrating since how much I can do is obviously not my fault right now. Am I overreacting by blaming myself? Am I under reacting by not being angrier at the library? The library doesn't have a dedicated HR person; we're part of the county government so we use theirs. I'm not sure what would happen if I went to them with a doctor's note - if they would make me take my six weeks of leave early or not.

If you have made it this far, thank you. Here's a picture of my current craving as a reward:

STM+, are you giving a gift to your big(s) when baby arrives? I'm considering buying a felt quiet book or an aqua doodle for DD. Or maybe a child's ring sling for her baby doll. Something fun for her to enjoy in case she gets to the hospital and is less than thrilled about her new baby brother or sister. Plus we could keep that gift stashed as a special toy for when I'm busy nursing baby. What are you doing to ease the transition for your big kid(s)?

I went to my specialist Doctor this morning for my ultrasound I get every 4 weeks to make sure baby doesn't get a tumor in his brain or heart due to a medical condition I have. She said he looked great other than his legs and arms are now measuring 4 weeks behind and everything else is normal so Down syndrome was mentioned again which was also mentioned before for a bright spot in his heart .. I denied the testing but since it was brought up again I figured I should probably do it so we can prepare if so. I will love him either way but it's so nerve wrecking She said its most likely just genetic because I'm only 5'2 and my fiancé is 5'6. I also have to start Biophysical profiles weekly along with my weekly check ups. Does anyone else get these? I'm hoping I don't end up having IUGR but at least if I do they can get him out but he is weighing 5lbs 8oz and I'm 35 weeks.

So I really hate to start a topic on this again as we have somewhat discussed it before.. But the reason I'm doing so is because I had to see my doctor yesterday due to increase and BP and found out I'm 2.5cm and 70% thinned. Been having irregular contractions as well. I am on bed rest til Monday when I will see my doctor again. He wants my swelling down and I am not quite 36 weeks yet.

Soooo... Today several times after peeing I noticed small pieces of what I can only describe as (TMI, sorry!).. Large booger looking things in the toilet. Nothing on the TP when wiping. It's been the last two times I've gone to the bathroom and now I am having some dull crampy pains. Could this be my MP coming little at a time? Is it something else I am unaware of? It's after hours so my OB is closed and I really don't want to bug the on call doctor about a MP question but I am very curious as I'm slightly concerned labor may be around the corner. Just want to be prepared and make sure my LO will be healthy and safe.

Sorry for the gross thread ...
I didn't see anything relating to this when I searched so hope this isn't a double post!

Im currently 35 weeks and my measurements have been slightly off so my Dr. ordered an ultrasound to check on baby. Turns out munchkin is just fine but on the longer side with measurements dating her at 37 weeks and weight is estimated a little over 7 lbs. I have been planning on a vaginal delivery but my Dr. said if munchkin gets to 10lbs and doesn't come naturally, she would order a csection.

She also checked my cervix and I'm not even close to being dilated apparently, which I'm fine with, especially if I'm not to term yet.

My fear is that baby will reach 10 lbs and I'll be forced into a csection. Any advice is appreciated!

I need some moral support. I've gained a normal amount of weight so far... but apparently a nice chunk of it went to MY FACE. Two things people stare at when they see me... my bump, and my face. I FEEL SO FAT all the time - I feel bad when I get ready for work, while I'm at work, when I'm at home - all the time because I feel like I just look disgusting!!!!!! I feel like I have like 4 chins. My husband's coworkers are throwing us a shower this Friday and I'm totally dreading it because I will be meeting almost all of them for the first time and I am just not comfortable in my skin!!

Please share your struggle with physical appearance to #1) make me feel like I'm not alone, and #2) because I already feel a little better getting it out!

Hi ladies,

I came across a study today from 2014 that was showing possibilities of an increased risk in Childhood Leukemia when the mother drank 2+ cups of coffee a day - the risk went up to 60%. I am not too worried about that, because I believe I stay within my limit of 150-300 mg of caffeine daily. However, another website that was talking about the same study mentioned something about even drinking one cup of coffee could increase the risk to 20%. Now, that, I do go over...and it just makes me feel bad and weird that I'm only hearing anything about this at 35 weeks. I know the study actually hasn't been proven and apparently the cup sizes of coffee and the way it was made is not taken into factor, nor was alcohol used as a control.

Does anybody know anything more about this study? Care to shed any light on it for me? I have tried staying well within my limit, having a cup of coffee or a latte in the a.m. and sometimes some soda in the later part of the day (but I can't see myself making it over 300 @.@)

Looks like my preemie is going to be discharged from the NICU within the next week. Yay!

Having been hospitalized for the last three months, I didn't have any opportunity to do all the important shopping for the baby. As such, I'm now scrambling to get it all done and am basically getting a crash course on all things baby.

I have a question about car seats I would love your opinions on.

I don't drive, so I will be wearing my baby or taking him out in his stroller (either walking or via public transit). This means I will also take my fair share of cabs.

I had been looking for a stroller with a car seat attached so I could take him out in the stroller be potentially cab home if I got tired. However one of the NICU moms mentioned that it's no longer advisable to have a baby in the car seat for very long as they are too scrunched up. This makes sense but how long is 'too long'?

I will get a bassinet attachment for long walks if needed but if I take the stroller out without the car seat it means I would be unable to cab back home. I intend to ask the sales people in the shops when I go to get one but thought I would ask here first. Has anyone done research on this?

Thanks so much!!
