Hello ladies!
I admit I have been lurking here since I was pregnant about 9 months ago and the advises have been very helpful. I went back to on the 28th of July and that's the day LO started daycare. My oldest used to go to this daycare and it's across the street from my work , so i go visit LO at my luch time. When I register her, I made sure I told them that i did not want LO on the bobby on tummy time( pediatrician order since she has neck issues) until her neck muscles are strong enough to support her head. The next day , when i went to visit her at my lunch time, the afternoon teacher told my that she did good on tummy time with the boppy. I assumed that she did not get the message, I told her that I did not want her on boppy during tummy time because of her neck problem. My husband is the one picking LO up at 5pm. She is 10
5 weeks by the way. Five days ago, when my husband pick up LO, i nocited that her onsie was wet from drooling and smelling( the same one i dropped her with in the morning)I changed her in the car. The next day, after DH pick up LO then pick me up after work, I noticed LO had dried tears ( she has a lot of tears whe she cries)on her face, but she was sleeping. I asked DH, he said LO was sleeping when he picked her up. So yesterday, I'm the one who picked up LO. I went there and found her sleeping on the boppy on her back with her head king of hanging and the bottle by her side. I picked her up from the boppy, i noticed that the top of her onsie is soaked (and driying ) from drooling( she doean't drool that much with me only when she's hungry and put her fist in her mouth). I told the teacher that LO onsie was wet. She said, oh she has been drooling a lot. While I was talking to the teacher i don't remember exactly about what, she said that LO has been taking her bottle by herself! I was like What??? Taking her bottle by herself?? She said yes. Like they will place it on the mouth against the boppy or swing and she will take by herself and she is good at it. She was proid of that. I was chocked! I mean she's still a newborn, she is months and 2 weeks tomorrow. How can she be eating by herself?? My oldest did not hold the bottle by himself until he was 14 months because he was EBF and would not eat from the bottle when he started daycare. But LO does not want to lacth on my breast so I pump. Am I just being too worried, protective ?? And I feel like she has not gained any weight since she's at the daycare , because i though she should be on size 2 diaper by now, but she's still on size one . Any advise will be appreciated. Help please!!

Warning: This is a MAJOR vent.

I started my maternity leave May 4th. It is now August 7th and I have not yet received a dime of EI pay!!!!!!

For the past 3 months I have spent countless hours on the phone with EI and my HR. My HR screwed up and sent incorrect info to EI which made them say I wasn't eligible for maternity leave pay. I've been at my job for over 3 years. Full time. There's no question that I'm eligible.

So it takes me months to get HR to send the right paperwork. Just got notification from EI that I'm not eligible because I VOLUNTARILY left my job in January. Umm no I didn't!!!! I have no idea where they got this from.

So now I get to go down to Service Canada AGAIN with LO to try to straighten this out. I would call the 1-800 EI number but you can only call during the day and my cell has limited minutes. I've gone over my limit the past two months because of all the time spent on the phone with EI. So now not only do I have no money, but I have a GIGANTIC phone bill.

Has anyone else been dealing with EI and having troubles? I'm so mad right now!!!!!!

So I am 16 weeks pp (delivered 6 weeks early & decided to stick with the May board because it is a lot more active and my LOs tend to align more developmentally with May babies). Anyway, I digress. I was wondering whether my c sec scar should still be bright red at this point? When does it usually fade? And my Linea Negra is still really prominent - purple in places and yellow/greenish in others. When does that usually fade and/or go away? FTM over here and I have no idea but my labor & emergency c sec was very traumatic and I have zero confidence the doctors did everything right. (I will save you the long sob story but will tell you the ONLY thing I remember from the c sec was the attending doctor saying to the resident doctor "not bad, but I would've done it this way"). Thanks for the help!

I don't pump very often, maybe a couple of times per week. I EBF and have a year maternity leave so I just pump when I'm engorged to put some in the freezer for future babysitters. I have been sterilizing my breast pump in between pumps, but just wondering how necessary this is. Often I forget to do it and then go to use it early in the morning and have to sterilize which is a pain in the moment.

Is it okay to just wash it and use? Or should it be sterilized after each use?

This is my first time posting but I've been lurking for a while now. I'm a FTM and my DS is 11 weeks old tomorrow. I'm not looking for any magical solution but I just wanted to know if I'm the only one who is still not getting any sleep. I keep reading all these posts where people are talking about 5+ hour stretches of sleep and it's making me cry (literally, lots of tears over the past few weeks)!

My LO is a happy, sweet, adorable baby during the day and I love him so much but I'm starting to feel completely hopeless that the nights will ever get better. We follow a flexible eat/play/sleep schedule during the day. He usually gets up around 7 AM and I try to never have him up for more than 90 minutes before getting him down for a nap. He is actually a fantastic napper during the day but only if I use the swing (fully reclined, swaddled and buckled in). If I put him in the crib during the day he wakes up after 45 minutes. In the swing he will nap for 2+ hours and I usually have to wake him up as I try not to let the nap go over 2 hours. He usually is down for the night between 8:30-9:30. At night he initially slept in the crib until about 5 weeks old and then he refused - he would wake up within seconds of putting him down. We started using the Rock n Play at night and he seemed to be doing a lot better. For a short time he started to do a four hour stretch between feeds, then three hours and then maybe go back down for another 1-2 hours some days. At his 8 week appointment though the doctor was concerned regarding torticollis and a flat spot developing and told us to get him in the crib and out of the RnP. We are seeing a physical therapist and doing repositioning techniques currently. So, we started the crib at night and it went horribly - swaddled him, white noise, dark room but he would wake every hour squirming/kicking and breaking out of his swaddle.

The doctor said to try zantac given the squirming and kicking. He's been on it for 2 weeks now with no improvement. I broke down and tried the Rock n Play again but he really wasn't doing much better in that suddenly (maybe doing 2 hour stretches). I then thought maybe the swaddle was the problem - he was busting out of it and maybe that was waking him so we started using Merlins Magic Sleep Suit. The first night he suddenly slept for 4.5 hours the first stretch in his crib and I almost cried with joy but then the rest of the night turned into the same game of up every one to one and half hours. This has been going on for three weeks now and I'm exhausted. I go back to work in 2 weeks and I'm scared to death - there is no way I can function on the sleep I'm getting. I've been to a lactation consultant to make sure everything was fine with how he was feeding and she had no concerns. The pediatrician just told me to try cutting dairy from my diet which I'm happy to try but I'm just not convinced that's the issue as his stools seem normal and he's fine during the day (he is a gassy baby but as a FTM I didn't think it was abnormal although when he wakes at night he does pass a lot of gas).

I'm starting to think I just have a crappy sleeper. I'm on the verge of breaking down and trying the swing overnight (fully reclined and buckled in) since he sleeps so well in it during the day (anyone else out there have a swing sleeper?) but I'm concerned it may not be the best for his head as it restricts his movement some (although to be honest when he's in the crib he tends to lay on the same spot regardless of all the repositioning I do). When he's waking at night I try to wait to see if he'll self-soothe and he never does - he usually doesn't cry, just fusses and squirms initially but eventually he will start to cry and that's when I go to him. If it's been more than 2 hours since he ate I'll feed him but if it's been less than that I try to soothe him first with a pacifier/rocking and he usually goes back down (but then will wake up again typically in 45 minutes and then I feed him).

Really I just wanted to see if anyone else out there is still getting little to no sleep as reading most people's posts makes me feel like I'm doing something wrong. If anyone else had these issues around this age have they started improving? I really need to try to see a light at the end of the tunnel.

I have done a google search for everyone worried if they could be going into labour or if they think they are close to it..

This should cover any questions you may have if you are worried that you could be in labour.

How will I know when I am in labour?

Every woman's labour is different. So pinpointing when yours begins isn't really possible. However, some specific changes take place in pre-labour, early labour and established (active) labour which may provide some clues.

In pre-labour or early labour (the latent phase), you may have:
Persistent lower back pain or abdominal pain, with a pre-menstrual feeling and cramps.
Painful contractions that occur at regular and increasingly shorter intervals, and become longer and stronger in intensity.
Broken waters. Your membranes may rupture with a gush or a trickle of amniotic fluid. Either way, call your midwife or hospital to let them know.
A brownish or blood-tinged mucus discharge (bloody show). If you pass the mucus plug that blocks the cervix, labour could be imminent, or it could be several days away. It's a sign that things are moving along.
An upset tummy or loose bowels.
A period of feeling very emotional or moody.
Disrupted sleep.
How you will feel in the pre-labour or early labour phases depends on:
Whether you've had a baby before.
How you perceive and respond to pain.
How prepared you are for what it may be like to go into labour.

When should I call my doctor or midwife?

You have probably talked with your doctor or midwife about what to do when you begin labour. If you think labour has begun or you have unusual symptoms, don't be embarrassed to call your midwife or hospital delivery ward. Midwives are used to getting calls from woman who are uncertain if they're in labour and who need guidance. It's part of their job.

A midwife can tell a lot by the tone of your voice, so talking helps. She'll want to know how close together your contractions are, whether you can talk through a contraction, and any other symptoms you may have.

If you're planning to have your baby in hospital or in a birth centre, she may ask you to come in so she can make an assessment.

If she thinks you're still in early labour, she is likely to encourage you to go home until you're in stronger active labour. Her decision will depend on how you're coping and whether you've got a birth partner to support you. Going to hospital too early increases your chances of interventions and reduces the chance of having a natural birth .

If you are having a homebirth your midwife will talk to you over the phone and may come to your home to assess whether labour has started.

You should contact your midwife or hospital delivery ward if:
Your waters break, or if you suspect you're leaking amniotic fluid.
Your baby is moving less than usual.
You have vaginal bleeding (unless it's just a small amount after a membrane sweep or the blood-tinged mucus of the show).
You have a fever, severe headaches, changes in your vision, or abdominal pain.

What should I do early on in labour?

This will depend on what time of day it is, what you like doing, and how you're feeling. Keeping calm and relaxed will help your body to release the hormone oxytocin that you need for your labour to progress and will help you to cope with the contractions. Do whatever will help you to stay relaxed.
This could mean watching your favourite film, going for a walk, pottering around at home, or asking a trusted friend or relative over to keep you company. You could alternate between walking and resting, or try taking a warm bath or shower to ease any aches and pains. If you can, try to get some rest to prepare you for the work ahead.
During early labour, you may feel hungry, so eat and drink if you feel like it. This will help to comfort you and may even help your labour to progress more smoothly.

Early labour is a good time to try out different positions, breathing techniques and visualisations to see if they help you to cope with the contractions. If you've got a TENS machine, early labour is the time to use it.

Can I have contractions and not be in labour?

Yes. You can have pre-labour contractions. These help your cervix to go through the changes it needs to before it starts to dilate. During dilation, your cervix moves from the back (posterior position) to the front (anterior position). It will also be shortening and thinning (softening and effacing).

These changes may take place without you noticing over the last few weeks of your pregnancy. Or you may experience hours or days of cramps or contractions. These may be progressing the early changes in your cervix, even though they may not be dilating your cervix yet.

A midwife can tell whether cervical changes have started during an examination, though she won't routinely check your cervix at your antenatal appointments. Your cervix may be firm and unyielding and then quickly become "paper thin" and start to open.
If your baby has his head down but his back to your back, it can take longer for his head to engage and for labour to start. Your contractions may be erratic and low in intensity, and you may have backache.
Your midwife will advise you about ways to cope at home until labour becomes stronger. You could take a dose of paracetamol or try a warm bath or massage to relieve the pain. If your baby is back-to-back, getting into an all-fours position, on your hands and knees, for half an hour or so now and again can help relieve backache.

Can I tell if labour is about to happen soon?

Maybe. Signs that labour may be approaching include:
Lightening, when your baby's head begins to drop into position in your pelvis. You may be able to breathe more deeply and eat more, but you'll also need to wee more frequently, and walking may be more difficult.
Heavier and more mucus vaginal discharge.
More frequent and noticeably more intense Braxton Hicks contractions.
Mood swings and a surge of energy.
A sudden urge to clean your home!

so I am such a sucker for little babies and pets. I have two dogs, a German shepherd and a pug. Both girls. I wasn't at all concerned about my shepherd with the baby as she is such a motherly soul - she babies anything that is smaller than her. But my pug was just a puppy (I actually bought her for myself the week I discovered I was pregnant) so I was worried about how she would be like -no need! Her and DS are best of friends, he spends hours staring at her and she spends hours staring at him. I love it and get a picture every chance I get.

My plan was to wake her up at 3AM (even though she will sleep until 4-4:30) to feed, then again at 6am, she will get a bottle at 9 from grandma and then I will BF her at 12 during lunch. Well it's not working out. She doesn't like to be woke up and she won't feed well if I do. If I don't wake her up then she will not be on schedule for me to feed her at noon. Also she is not taking a bottle from my mom, she will just scream :( help....

But sometimes not every night when she wakes up in the morning she doesn't have a wet diaper? I find this strange. She doesn't show signs of pain like she would if she had a bladder infection from "holding" in the pee??

Is anyone else's LOs doing this? My husband was like maybe this means she won't wet the bed when she is older??

Just curious if anyone else is dealing with this. I absolutely hate finding hair around my house and it's so gross when I brush it after I shower.

I have long hair and am seriously considering chopping it off. I donate my hair every 3 years and it's not quite long enough if I want to donate. Otherwise I'd be booking a haircut immediately. Anyone have any idea how long this lasts??

Hi everyone. I am a huge lurker, have been for the past 11 months. I am a FTM and admit, I have no idea what I am doing. My little man is almost 9 weeks old and does not nap/sleep well at all. I know there are several threads about this but I am at my wits end and I guess I need to vent. We start our day fine, normally around 5am I change him and take him out of his swaddleme then we are up about an hour or so, he eats, I put him in his swing, he falls asleep and I go back to sleep on the couch until about 9:30-10:00. When he wakes up he eats again, we play on his play mat, he sits in his bumbo seat, we sing songs, we go outside. Whatever. Then he takes another nap about an hour after waking up. Then, it's all downhill. He maybe sleeps 30 or 45 minutes if I am lucky. Sometimes he wants to eat, sometimes he doesn't. Sometimes he will go back to sleep, sometimes he doesn't. My day is just a random mish mash of trying to figure out if he needs to eat, sleep, play or just chill out. Today I "mall walked" for almost 2 hours. He still didn't sleep, but also didn't cry while in the stroller. Every night I try to stick to a bedtime routine of bath/lotion, swaddle, feed, sleep. No matter what time it is or what routine I try it either takes over an hour to get him asleep and he wakes up every hour or he falls right asleep but wakes up the second his head hits the mattress. I am completely exhausted. Last night He went to sleep finally around 10:30 and woke up at 1:15 and I have been awake since trying to figure out what he needs. He doesn't really cry a lot and most times when I try to feed him sooner than two hours in between feeds he won't take it (EBF).

If the answer here is I am just not blessed with a good sleeper so be it, maybe that's just what I need to hear. But at this moment he is awake, just looking at me, and I have no clue what I am doing and it makes me want to cry. So, am I missing something? I swaddle, I use white noise, I keep his room dark, I follow sleep cues, I try to stick to a schedule, I use a paci. I've tried a packnplay, rocknplay, crib, swing.... I am out of ideas.

ETA: Yes, i will wear him in the Moby but that doesn't allow me to sleep.

Baby is drinking 3 bottles 5 oz at daycare, so I had to reevaluate my plan. Now I have enough up through Friday, which is 9 bottles, I feel like that is still not enough, although I'm pumping everyday, it doesn't leave for much room on the weekends for me to leave baby bc he will have to use bottles, which I'm trying to save for daycare.

She already sleeps in her crib for naps but sleeps in her RNP in our room. There are a couple of things stopping me: her room is on the complete other side of the house (we do have a video monitor) and I'll miss her!!! :((

However, it would be kind of nice to have my room back! Also, she is such a LOUD sleeper and I, apparently, am a really light sleeper.

I'm pretty sure it's the pill because I can still pump about 6-8 ounces in the morning but after I take it at 2 in the afternoon I can barely get an ounce between both breasts. I've read it's rare but it does happen to some women. I don't want to use the implant or an IUD, and DH said he's fine with using condoms. Has this happened to anyone else?

Wondering if any one has had success getting LO back down for a good stretch of sleep without it taking so long? Do you keep LO swaddled and just feed then back to bed?

We EBF and do not sleep train. I can appreciate everyone doing things differently in these departments, but I'm looking for tips from other mamas who also EBF and don't sleep train since that advice will be most helpful for us. TIA!

Saturday afternoon he slept from 2:00-6:45, I was kinda worried, and that night he was kinda restless, he would sleep for every 2 hours and then wake up and repeat the same schedule. Last night he slept ok, but still has not had a BM. All along I was giving him gas drops and he was passing gas, but just not having a BM. I told daycare and they mentioned about talking to Dr about giving baby a little pear juice. I had never heard of that before and I'm waiting to call the Dr to ask what to do. Anyone else have this problem and have tried pear juice on a 11 week old baby

There was a thread quite a while back, where one of you also commented on this, and how frustrating it was... I don't remember who it was.
I'm wondering if anyone else is still struggling with this? And if so, what are your good ideas on fixing it?
I'm doing kegels, using kegel weights, doing planks and squats, having sex often (even though it's scary and discouraging with this going on. dh is being VERY sweet about it!) and taking my vitamins.
Anything more I can be doing???

Its been awhile since ive updated those of you who wanted to know about Cohen.

He was 14 pounds 5 ounces on Wednesday when his home health nurse came over! He was 7 8 when he was born! He will be 3 months old tomorrow (crazy!) and was supposed to have an angioplasty done tomorrow. (they stick a tube from his artery in his leg up to his heart and check to see how much pressure is there) But someone at childerens hospital dropped the ball and forgot to put him on the list for surgery and anistesia tomorrow. .. So now we're just going to have a normal checkup and then we will find out when they're going to reschedual it to. And after that test we will find out when his first open heart surgery is.
