So ladies I've got just a quick question...before getting pregnant I was always a bit heavier in the weight department, not by much but still maybe a good 20-30lbs overweight. I've read that having the "extra" weight could make things a little bit harder in the times to come and was curious if there are any mom's who have been/going through what I'm going through?

And every night the question plagues me- do I get up and eat and then have to brush my teeth again, or do I just go to sleep?

I've always had this idea in mind that while you're carrying a guy's baby, he should treat you extra special. Is that ridiculous of me? Am I completely delusional in, not expecting, but hoping to be treated with extra care, love, and patience? Even like a freaking queen?? Maybe that's crazy, and again, I don't expect that, but is it too much to ask that I don't have to defend every one of my moodier hours?
Hello ladies. I am back on here. I have gone thru a very rough year. I've been in a very dysfunctional off and on relationship for 4 years and a half. Last February I became pregnant and was so happy, my boyfriend seemed happy as well and led the happiness on for 10 weeks until he decided to say that he wasn't ready and didn't want this. He proceeded to brainwash me and mentally abuse me into a forced abortion which I still cannot forgive myself for. The relationship continued and remained off and on and abusive emotionally and mentally and verbally. We've been broken up since the beginning of this month and I just found out I am pregnant by him again :/. I can't bear to put myself thru that experience again. But I am afraid to be a single mom. I am also afraid of not being able to support my baby in the way that I would like. My boyfriend has another child he's 5 years old and he loves his son. And I feel as though he wouldn't be able to balance both children . I don't know what to do and my story goes on and on and on . I am very stuck and emotional . Advice ?

I'm a first time mom and I'm wondering the best way to plan my and my husband's leave?
Financially, it would make sense if my husband and I didn't overlap our time off (child care is super expensive where I live). So, I take my 12wk leave first while he works, then I return to work and he takes his 12 weeks off to stay with the baby.
However, I'm sure we will want some time off TOGETHER after the baby is born. But how much time should we overlap? 2-3 days? 2-3wks? I have no idea.
We don't want to disadvantage our child or stress ourselves too much, but we are also trying to be frugal and need to get back to work. What would you suggest?

Hi ladies. I am new to the board and just introduced myself in the intro thread. (Currently 7.5 weeks along.) I was rear-ended yesterday while stopped at a red light. The lady just wasn't paying attention and hit me going about 20-30 mph. I went to the dr/chiro and have whiplash and 2 ribs displaced which I am having worked on. I called my ob (who I am not scheduled to see until Jan. 27 when I will be about 10.5 weeks) thinking they would want me to come in to do an ultrasound or something to check on the baby but the nurse just said to wait it out and watch for bleeding. She said I could go to the ER if I wanted to since it was an auto accident but didn't offer to do an ultrasound at their office or anything. My close friends are telling me I should go to the ER to have the baby checked out and that my dr's office is kind of nuts for telling me they couldn't do much to check. We are planning on going tonight to have everything checked for peace of mind. Just wondering if anyone has been through this or has any thoughts? Am I overreacting by going to the ER with no bleeding? Thanks in advance!

Hello there,
I had my first visit, and the doctor's office gave me a payment schedule. The OB office calculated the co-insurance I would need to pay for delivery and split into 5 payments. Has anyone been asked to do that? I'm wondering if this is common.

I have a high deductible plan with HSA through work, and I'm used to waiting for doctor's offices to file paperwork to my insurance first and never had to prepay for anything. Later I would get the EOB (explanation of benefits) from my insurance company (and the medical bill from the doctor's office), and this is when I pay. Would there be any problems for using HSA funds to prepay before the service is performed and any paperwork is filed? Could someone that's been through this share the experience, please? Thanks a lot!

Except today, nothing at all sounds good and the pictures are making me nauseous. So far, I've got stew and chili on the list.

I planned on making stew and taking some to my neighbor tomorrow who just got released from the hospital (this was pre-planned), and BIL sent us a chili kit, so I planned on making that, as well. Anything else...ugh.

I'm open to suggestions because I just can't keep looking at food pictures.

According to my calculations and the implantation bleeding I had the week before chistmas, I should be a little over 7w. However today I had an u/s and according to that, I am 5w5d. They also said my hormone levels match with that. Could I have estimated wrong? Is it possible my baby could be measuring small?

Anything? The u/s tech couldn't tell me ANYTHING of course. Do they just leave it and just let the other baby grow or do they try to remove it some way some how?

I everyone, I'm a birth doula and I've spent hours and hours researching natural remedies for morning sickness. I'll admit, I went into this pregnancy slightly cocky, thinking I could avoid nausea because I know so much. WRONG! I woke up yesterday at 6w3d and it was full on. 0-60 in one day! Well, now I get to put my own practices to the test. I thought I'd share some tips I've gathered from midwives, mamas, acupuncturists, doctors, nutritionists and holistic practitioners. I'm going to try everything!

1. Peppermint and ginger. Some prefer the cooling effects of peppermint, others the warming effect of ginger. Both settle digestion. Today I bought two tins, one of peppermints and one of gingermints from Trader Joes. Peppermint oil (essential oil from whole foods, etc) works wonders. Put a drop on your hand and breathe deep, it can help a wave pass and then it stays on your hands for hours. Sip peppermint and ginger tea all day long. Ginger People chews are great but SUPER strong! Normal ginger ale doesn't actually have any ginger in it, so if you want to sip some ginger ale, buy some natural ginger beer that's super spicy strong.

2. Keep your blood sugar constant. Nausea gets much worse when your blood sugar drops, and then it's hard to eat, so it's a viscous cycle. Make sure and graze all day, have a snack between meals (every 2 hours or so.) Morning sickness is often worse in the morning because we've gone so many hours without eating. Keep a snack by your bed! Like saltines, raw apple juice, a boiled egg. When you wake up to pee, take at least 3-5 good swallows of the juice, or have a cracker. When you wake up, you will feel much better. If you don't get up to pee, set an alarm for around 2am, and make yourself have a bite. I know this sounds crazy, but if you're really suffering from morning sickness, it will definitely help.

3. The bowels slow down during pregnancy and this often leads to a build up of toxins, especially if you're eating a lot of processed foods. Make sure you're peein and pooin' enough all day. You can ensure this by drinking at least 64 ounces of water a day. Just keep sipping. You'll have to pee all the time, but that's better than nausea!

4. For a homeopathic approach, buy a tube of Nux Vomica, 6x strength. Pop a few of the pills under your tongue whenever you're feeling cruddy.

5. Eat as many raw foods as you can: organic raw veggies and fruits. Minimize processed foods. This is where I have problems...I usually eat tons of raw veggies (I have to be on a paleo diet to deal with a chronic disease) but all veggies just make me want to vomit right now!! I can only handle cold cucumber slices.

6. Move around, swim, walk, exercise, getting your blood moving will help your body detox and clear things out.

7. Chiropractic care and acupuncture can work wonders for nausea and energy!

Alright, I'm off to put on peppermint oil, fill up a huge waterbottle and take my dog to the park so I can walk around in the fresh air. Hopefully I don't barf. I feel like I've been hit by a truck.

I'd love to hear any tips and tricks you guys have.

I also know every woman's cramps are different and can change, what kind of cramps, if any have you had? I haven't had much, just a twing here and there, but today 9w2d I'm having a pressure kind of cramp, like someone kicked me square in the crotch lol. This is new for pregnancy but I've had this kind before with periods, like the pelvis itself is aching, not my uterus

I have had spotting this entire pregnancy. It seems to have slowed down over the past two days. I was seen in the ED (while on vacation) a week ago this Sunday to rule out an ectopic pregnancy (was having lower right sided pain in addition to the spotting), and everything looked OK on ultrasound. They told me I was 5 wks + 2 days at that point, so there really wasn't much to see - just a gestational sac and yolk sac in the right location. I guess this makes me 6 wks + 4 says today.

Anyway, I continued to spot after my visit. I also got norovirus shortly after my ED trip (probably from travelmates who brought their vomiting toddler on vacation with us) and lost 8-9 lbs over three days of illness and agressive vomiting. I now weigh about 104 lbs at 5'4" (not good). Needless to say, I'm not feeling really great about the health of this pregnancy. I have my ED follow-up appointment today with my OB provider at home. I really have a sinking feeling that they're going to tell me the pregnancy is non-viable.

I'm trying to be hopeful, but I just have a forboding feeling about this visit. I am at home today and my daughter is at daycare. I would normally spend this day being super productive, but all I've been able to do is watch the clock, counting down the minutes until my appt. I leave for the appt in 1.5 hours. Just 90 more minutes to go...

Tonight we are having lobster and bacon wrapped scallops. I have also eaten it a few times since finding out. Mainly haddock, crab, shrimp and scallops. I haven't asked my OB as I've only had one appointment and didn't think of it but good old Google seems to say it is fine in moderation. Any other mamas big on seafood and still indulging a little?

Hey y'all - thanks for all of your input yesterday...I took everyone's feedback from yesterday and tried to organize it a bit (this list is also borrowed from our friends on the May 2016 board, thanks gals!)

Also - A lot of people expressed opinions that we want to keep this board
welcoming and to keep the snark light (light, not "non-existent").
Pregnancy is an exciting, scary time, and we're all a bit vulnerable -
so I'm in favor and think it'll help keep the group positive and
supportive. And we can still do random posts and threads if people want to, of
course - we don't have to be too scripted!!

Weekly Threads: these will be posted on Mondays and will run the course of the week. Would be great if someone wanted to own one or more of these to post every week.
-Symptoms thread
-Weekly randoms
-Fit Mama Check In
- PGAL check in
-What's for Dinner
- GIF parties - whenever you want to post, these are always fun

Daily Threads:
-Ticker change! (This would be a change from what we're doing now which is just a status update, and as many said, it might be kinda repetitive as the days go on)

Weekday Threads: happen once a week on the same day (please add date to thread title)
-Monday Bitchfest
-twatwaffle Tuesday!
-AW Wednesday (Attention Whore - for you to brag about whatever it is you want to brag about, guilt free)
-Unpopular Opinion Thursday
-Flame Free Friday Confessions
-HDBD (hump day bump day) will be added Wednesdays once they're necessary!

Stickies for later:
Nursery pictures/ideas
Sex announcements
Birth announcements.

Not working. Threw up several times yesterday morning, violently. I felt pukey all day and still feeling pukey today. I switched to using the diclegis samples the OBGYN gave me last week starting last night, with the full 4 pills a day. Still queasy, but at least I didn't actually vomit this morning. And, back to feeling nauseous the longer I chew food.

Anyone else feel a huge spike in nausea once they hit 8 weeks of being pregnant done?
