He is also pooping right before he wakes for the day, which also never happens.

He is eating, playing, no fever, but he is getting at least three molars. I've read that the extra drool can cause loose stools, but the pedi said no it won't. Which is it?

We've tried the BRAT diet and if not that, then he is getting very bland foods. What foods can I give to firm the stools? The nurse said we could try a probiotic, she said that yogurt has it.

DD had a 104 degree temp and threw up twice at daycare today, so I got her early and made a trip to the doctor. Throat and lungs look good and it's probably just a virus. She was a sad sack all afternoon but kept down a squash and banana pouch and a lot of water. She went down for her nap a half hour early after actually letting me hold and read three books and falling asleep during the third... This never happens! I feel bad for her, but with all this sleep and all the fluids she is drinking, hopefully she will be on the mend soon!

DH is going to stay home with her tomorrow.

What should she sleep on at their house?

They don't have a crib. They do have a pack n play but the last time we used one if those (late July), she slept terribly. I think it's just not big enough any more. Girl likes her space.

Is a nap mat possible for overnight? Would you try to make do with the pnp? (After all, we won't be there! Zing!)

Is it too early in the week to start a discussion on religion?

I am not religious. At all. I am interested in it, however.

I was born into a southern baptist family. I went to church with my family for many years. Around 8 or 9 or so, my parents stopped going but I kept going with other family members or church members until I was about 12. I'm not sure why I quit, just kind of grew out of it I guess.. parents weren't going, school friends didn't go, etc.

I went again when I was around 16 to a baptist church with a friend and didn't like the sermon given. I completely disagreed with the preacher's views on abortion and politics.

I haven't been back since. I have a hard time believing there's some man in the sky that takes care of everything. I believe you make your own destiny and you're responsible for yourself. I also don't believe you can pray your problems away. I don't believe God has a bigger plan for people that die.. like children with cancern or lives taken too soon. KWIM?

But I'm interested in learning more about religion. A lot of my family members are religious and seem much happier and peaceful. I also want to give DS the choice and he might be a little biased if he never steps foot in a church.

Talk to me about your choice to be religious... or not be religious... especially if you found religion later in life.

Ok so on my local mom's group someone brought up the fact they are not letting their kids believe in Santa. It's their choice. Nbd. My problem (which of course is miniscule compared to problems these days kids encounter) is how kids who didn't ever believe in Santa practically bullied me and any friends who believed. It was so so sad and I still feel hurt in a way thinking about how these kids were mean about it. One mom explained her kids aren't mean to other kids and they would never ruin it for others. But how often does a kid make fun of another and their parents would NEVER think their kid would have a mean spirit in their body??? I am probably rambling as I'm on my phone. I know this is not new. Kids grew up not believing in Santa when I grew up but this rubs the wrong way. I gotta just keep a positive perspective by believing my kids will believe in Santa and know that even if kids make fun of them for believing it's no big deal in the grand scheme of things. It'll probably be the least of their worries throughout life....why do I care so much???

It's just Santa....

Update: The er ran some blood work, and did an ultrasound. My betas are where they should be and the baby was there and had a strong heartbeat of 173. They didn't do a pelvic exam since everything seemed normal. The doctor put me on bedrest just for caution for a few days. I will get more bloodwork and another ultrasound at the end of the week. He had to diagnose it as a "threatened miscarriage" but says he really doesn't think that's the case for the spotting. So here's to hoping and praying everything will be just fine!!! I was measuring 8 days earlier than what my lmp says though so my due date will be pushed back to May 17th from May 9th.

For me. As many of you know, we are expecting baby #2. The last few days I've been having spotting that is getting worse and is now accompanied by mild cramping. I'm so scared. I've been a mess all morning. My midwife suggested going to the er to either calm my nerves or hear the worst. Please keep us in your thoughts and prayers. :(

Alright ladies, are diaper rash and teething related?

Evie has never had any rash problems until she started to cut teeth. Her first one came through a week before her first birthday, joined with diarrhea and rash central. We did our best to keep her clean and dry and Destin'd up, and it cleared in a few days.

Midway through my trip home to Canada, teeth 2, 3, and 4 began to come in, all at once. Since then, we've been plagued with wet and messy diapers, and the worst bum rash I've ever seen, no matter how vigilant we are on what's going on in the diaper zone. One spot is so raw, I'm afraid it's going to actually bleed. I am at a loss for what to do. It seems to start to clear up, then we miss a smell-free poop for an hour that comes seemingly right after a change, and we're at square one. She seems to be in so much pain, it kills me.

Any other suggestions here? A better ointment? We did switch to Walmart brand wipes about a month before we were in rash central - they seemed too perfumed to me. Could that be making things worse? I'm at a loss here, I hate my poor little dove being in pain.

The boys went to one area of the room and the girls another. She said "we had a lock down practice mommy, in case a bad guy comes into the school" I think it's a good thing to be prepared, but man the world we live in today.
Luckily she didn't seem scared by it. I know she doesn't know how bad people can really be.

So we've been back in CT for a mere 4 days and we have not stopped bouncing from place to place. I'm exhausted. It's hard enough to facilitate a cross country move, but to have to visit with every family member in the tri state area in our first week is way worse. We're not going anywhere, people, I'll see you when I see you.

Ugh. Tonight, we were at a birthday party, and one of H's uncles was trying to give T a balloon, which I said firmly, several times, that I don't want him playing with the balloons. Well, he was forcing it on the kid and poor T doesn't even know the guy because we haven't been living here, so in trying to get away from him, he falls FLAT on his face, on the sidewalk. For the second time this week. Maybe it's a language barrier, but I'm pretty sure my body language alone was clear when I picked him up immediately and pried his hand off T's arm. Yes, I know he's fine, but he would have been better if you didn't make him fall on his face. Thanks.

Don't you wish you could just be a bitch sometimes? Or maybe just pull a Scout and tell it like it really is?

It seems like the majority of childcare options in my area are bilingual. There are lots of bilingual families, but a lot of the childcare advertisements seem to be targeted at monolingual families. I've seen advertisements for big centers as well as small in home daycares that say your child will be bilingual within one year. When I go to the park or the library, most of the nannies are bilingual. In my neighborhood, even most of the monolingual families now have bilingual children. I think it's great and wonder if they will retain their ability to speak and understand both languages as they get older.
With the public schools, there is a lot of variation, with some offering two way bilingual programs or second language instruction right from kindergarten and others not offering any kind of second language until high school.
What about in your area? Does there seem to be a big push toward bilingualism for everyone, especially for toddlers?

What do you do about it if it happens? Charlie got punched pretty hard by an older kid today. She didn't cry for long, but she looked like her feelings were so hurt by it! I didn't know what to do and I thought I might cry, so I just picked her up and left. The other kids dad didn't do anything! This is the second time something like this has happened in 3 months.

My friend's little girl is a Kindergartener at a Magnet school. I found out yesterday they have to give oral presentations every Friday. They are graded on them. I think about that and I get anxiety. I have no trouble talking in front of people now, but as a kid I felt pretty traumatized by stuff like piano recitals, etc.

What are your thoughts on this? I feel like for the outgoing kids, the ones who have a natural tendancy to enjoy performing and entertaining, the extraverts, it's going to hone their skills and they'll profit from it. But for the shy kids, the ones for whom something like this can cause actual physical pain? I feel awful for them.

I don't see how a forced oral presentation in K can be a simplistically positive thing. Just curious on your thoughts. I was shocked. We homeschool, as most of you know, and I had actually never heard of this before so it's a new thnig to think about.
