What are some weight loss techniques that you have used that have been successful for you? Groups, apps, workout videos, really anything. I do all the shopping for my house but H is not very on board with the "we only have health foods in the house" concept so he wants at least some junk food. My problem is is that I eat the junk food too. I have always had an unhealthy relationship with food that I am trying to work on but I need help. Any tips or tricks would be great.

As of right now, I don't drink pop and drink about 90 oz of water a day. I have a desk job doing sales so I barely leave my office. I get home from work at 6:30p and my kid is in bed by 7:15p so I don't have much time to do much besides feeding him and giving him a bath at night. Also, my husband works 6p - 6a 4 days a week so I can't leave my house to work out on nights he works.

TIA for any advice!

I started teaching Charlotte to put away her toys this summer. Before her naps, I would clean up and talk a LOT about what I was doing: "Mommy is cleaning up. Look how I pick up the toys. Mommy puts toys in the basket. Mommy puts books on the shelf." Then I started handing her one toy and asking her to put it in the basket. I would point and show her how I did it and she caught on! For a while, she would put anything we handed her in the basket we pointed at and said "Put _____ in the basket."

Well, now I think she really knows "get out" and "put away!" She can get her shoes when asked, and usually bring a matching pair. She can also follow "put your shoes in the basket" directions so well. Last night, when I said, "It's time to clean up the living room. Let's put away toys," she JUMPED up and started putting everything in sight into the toy basket. It was amazing!

Next I want to teach her to put her dirty clothes into the hamper. I think that's a good next step.

Has anyone else taught their LOs to get things out or put them away? How successful have you been? Maybe it's because I am a FTM and haven't spent much time around toddlers, but I am amazed that she can do all this! (Maybe other kids were doing this at 9 months and Charlotte is totally behind, but I am still impressed with her.)

What other "chores" are you teaching your LOs? I'd love more ideas. I am a firm believer that kids find joy in helping mom and dad run the house.

What's motivating you this week? I've got a few.... DH is working halfway across the world and this is the longest we've been apart and it bites the big one but he's getting 80 hours of overtime this paycheck and I just ordered a new phone AND going to buy myself boots today as well as something for DS because (PSA) Gymboree has the $16.99 sell in stores today. Also, when he returns from his month long trip, he will have enough rewards for a free room and he wants to go away for a night. Also, I have a 3rd day off today with my sweet boy because his daycare is closed due to Colombus Day and my birthday is on Wednesday. I already have the day off but it will be spent getting the flu shot for DS but my BFF is coming over next weekend to help me celebrate with scary movies, dinner, and wine. That's my motivation this 3 day work week!

Anyway, I am so super excited to make a menu.

So far, I know I am going to spatchcock our turkey, which basically means take out the backbone and flatten it for even cooking. And I am going to dry brine it so I don't poison everyone finding somewhere to store it in a wet brine.

On top of that, I think I may try to make a cornbread wild rice dressing (not stuffing since you can't stuff something flat ). As for sides, I can't decide if I shoud go traditional because I will be homesick or just go completely off the wall because I will be homesick. And then I think I will still make two pies because I require apple and pumpkin. What about you? What does your ideal thanksgiving include?

Put your Halloween traditions here!

We got two pumpkins on Sat. We got out of the habit of carving when SIL turned her annual carving party into a "you can't take then home, I'm using them to decorate my restaurant" labor camp. Sad to see you go, awesome punkins!

Now with B we might carve them this week. What a mess we'll make! And my sis has now claimed Halloween as her holiday, so she'll have a party we'll prolly go to since we get zero trick or treaters in my hood. Last year B spent the whole time screaming, so I'm hoping she'll be more social this time. She's going to be a sunflower. I have no idea what DH and I will be. We've half assed it in the past, no telling what we'll pull out of out ass this time. The only time I've put in effort, I was Wonder Woman and I milked it for 3 years. It's still my favorite.

Enough about me. Whatcha got?

So now that DS is almost 15 months and DD is 6, I can positively say we are DONE. I wanted DH to get snipped, but with the way he handles a cold......so then I researched tubal ligation. I wasn't ready for surgery. I took the pill for 12 years with no issues, but after DS was born I swear the pill was putting me over the edge the week before every period and with two kiddos and working, I could never remember to take it! . (Though in hindsight it could be the extra child..lol) so I took myself off and felt better. We tried condoms but it kinda killed the mood it took me long enough to be in. So three days ago I went with Mirena after talking to my doctor. The procedure was over in 8 minutes and I've had barely any cramping. So far so good.

When I searched the boards on here for it, many posts were negative. Anyone successfully using it? Or have used it?
Thanks!

Every time I have made it, people ask where I got the bread. They never believe I made it in my own oven. I really want to breed yeast and make this bread but haven't tried it yet. Last night I was signing "milk", and at 3:30am when he woke up, I tried putting him back down and he took his paci out and began signing for milk.
This may have been a bad idea, he's too cute to say no to!
Anyone else do baby signing?

My nephew saw some old footage on TV and shouted, "Aunt Becca!" I have been told this at least a few times a month since I was a preteen. My husband looks like Travis Barker from Blink 182, minus the tattoos. Similar face, same build, and similar style. But it's weird when you think about these two as a couple.
By request, let's talk about things we've purchased or received and review them! We mamas need not waste time and money on inferior goods!

I'll give you an item (As Seen on TV themed for starters) and you can agree, disagree or go off on a tangent with other related products. If there's enough interest we'll do it weekly. Ok?

Today's item: SNUGGIE

You know you want one. Received as a gag gift, I certainly laughed. Mine is zebra print and cute, warm, cozy, washes well without pilling or shedding, and soft. BUT I usually wear it backwards because if you wear it as advertised and sit up or move AT ALL it falls down off your shoulders since it doesn't fasten, which is annoying.

Verdict: Get one and wear it like a robe! Or just wear a robe.

Do you like yours? Want to fess up to having pajama pants or the Forever Lazy? What's your favorite comfort item? (Save pillows for another time)

So I just heard back from the pedi's office and Nolan hasn't even had his first Flu shot yet. He starts a new day care in a couple of weeks. I'm already anticipating lots of sickness.

Problem is...we're going on vacation for 6 days next TR through the following Thursday. I can't do Tues of next week. Their only mid-day appt on Monday is at 12:15 right at naptime and when I brought him back to DC it would still be naptime and the teacher might kill me. It's currently scheduled for Wed. in the hopes that DH can take him. My in laws will probably already be here and would love some extra time with him. BUT then we leave the next day. If he is miserable from the shot I hate to leave that to my in-laws.

I can't do it the next week because I'm already on vacation 2 days, have a dentist appt and I have to take time for paperwork/new daycare stuff. Perhaps I could postpone my dentist appointment.

If I wait longer than that I might be messing with his daycare adjustment.

So...when would you do it?

My sister in law. She is stepmother to my 13 year old niece, and mom to my 7 year old niece. Every year, her "birthday parties" for these girls consists of her inviting us over with 2 days notice for pizza and ice cream cake. She always says to be there at 5:30, and usually changes it to 6:00. They are always already eating when we get there. And, inevitably, the 13 year old has to be at dance by 7:30....so, yeah, we feel real welcome. Well, she texts Tuesday to tell us to come over Thursday. DH had court at 6:00, then plans to head up to a hockey game. I was going to take DS, but he was kinda sick, so I cancelled. Well, she flipped out and got all bitchy that DH went to the hockey game and that no one came. Keep in mind, my MIL asked her why we couldn't just do it Sunday, so everyone could come, and she said no, we can't. Turns out, they are doing cake with her family on Sunday. Our whole family is like an extra 6 people. To top it all off, they wanted to take DS shopping with them tomorrow, and I really didn't want them to. I like my quiet weekend home with my baby. They never bother to come see him, and every few weeks they just expect us to let them take him for hours on end. Their house is fucking chaotic, and I never get to see my nieces. Whew! Sorry that was so long. And my paragraphs never show up on the iPad, so I apologize for the wall o'text.

For me it was mastitis, hands down the first bout. The second wasn't as bad because we caught it right away.

In second place was when I had the flu when I was 27. That was brutal.

For something noncommunicable it was my anemia. I couldn't walk up one flight of stairs without thinking I was dying.

I got home from New York City, late Tuesday. I have had a cold since Monday. I woke up this morning and I am 99.9% sure that I have pink eye, which I have never had before. I have a turkey and all the fixings to Canadian Thanksgiving supper. I have no energy, and feel royally like poop. We didn't make it home for this weekend, so I thought I would do it for the kids. We are going to be in Ireland for American Thanksgiving, so it is a no go as well.
This is long and venting, sorry.
It's an inflatable play place. They have a separate room for 3 and unders too. And trey claim to sanatize well with some sanatation thing. It's only $5.99 for under 2's but I still just wanted some thoughts.

All three kids got their flu shots yesterday so I think that may be the culprit. Drake threw up all over me and him fifteen minutes after I got home. He then threw up a little more about twenty minutes later and fell asleep in the living room. He woke up and for a second bath and some pedialyte but started laying around again so I put him to bed. I really hope its nothing contagious. I can't imagine how much time I'll have to take off with three kids!

I'm the crappy neighbor.

DH and I saw that the house down the street from us was for sale so we wandered down to grab the info flyer out front of the house. The lady who lives there came out to say hello (we've spoken once when we moved in two years ago so she recognized us). As you can tell, we're not very social with neighbors.

She said to come in and see the house if we were interested and as she was showing us around, she'd say things like "this is where my husband kept his guns" and "my husband just put this new door on". I couldn't tell if she was divorced or if her husband had passed, and I wasn't about to ask in front of her kids who were playing around us.

Later, DH and I looked them up online and found out that her husband has just died in a fiery plane crash TWO WEEKS ago and it was all over the news. I just didn't know it was him. I felt so horrible. I didn't know so I didn't say anything like I'm sorry for your loss or at the very least, how are you doing. We just gushed over how much we loved the house.

Do I send her a card? Skip over it completely? Either way seems awkward, especially since we might be buying her house. Also, I'd have to explain how I found out, which is embarrassing.

We just got new neighbors about a week ago and I'm not sure whether we should talk to them about their dogs or not. We've introduced ourselves and DH helped them move some big furniture when they were unloading, but we don't really know them yet. They have three dogs and I guess DH was telling them how much DD likes dogs and found out that one is good with people, one is questionable, and the other is not good with strangers/kids.

So the issue is - they put their dogs on a line when they let them out. We don't have a fence in the backyard between our yards. The line allows the dogs to go 4-5 feet into our yard. I'm counting our shed as the edge of our backyard, not just making up an imaginary line. Earlier this week DD and I were playing outside when the dogs came out and they came running and barking toward DD. That was before I knew how long the line was so I ran and scooped DD up. Thankfully they couldn't get to her. I've also found poop on our side of the yard 3-4 times. Would it be annoying of us to ask them to either shorten the line for the dogs or pick up after the dogs? I've never had dogs so I don't know if people normally pick up after their pets when it's their own yard, but I don't want to be on poop patrol every time we go outside. And I certainly don't want DD to ever be in danger while we're outside. WWA12D?
