Has anyone else's kid been going a little nuts lately? DS has been testing limits non-stop and acting deliberately mischievous. He's also been impossible to get to bed in the evenings- he's been really hyper and is super-tough to settle. I realized there's a Wonder Week around this time and it sure sounds like what's going on:

For the first time, your child is now able to change programs he’s learned so far. And he loves playing with this. You can see how he varies the programs endlessly and studies all consequences of this. You can see how he does all kinds of “physical antics,” gets acquainted with the outdoors, starts to be more skillful with things and language, imitates others, role-plays daily life, practices emotions, starts to think ahead, starts nagging to get his way, starts to put on drama-play, starts to “demand” a vote, starts to be “aggressive,” can distinguish between mine and yours, starts being nice and placating to get on mom’s good side, starts to make jokes to get around the rules, starts negotiating and bargaining, starts experimenting with “yes” and “no,” starts to know how to get someone to do something for him, learns to do something together, wants to help in the household, and experiments with “thoughtless” vs. “careful.”

https://www.thewonderweeks.com/mental-leap-9/

just looking to commiserate. i also had a cold this week and i am exhausted!!

or other IUD people....at what point would spotting concern you?

I had Mirena placed at 8 weeks pp, had about 6 weeks of bleeding/spotting, and then nothing really since then. Maybe a handful of random days of spotting so light you wouldn't even notice it. I stopped nursing completely on September 14 and had been down to 1x a day for several weeks by that point. I got a period on October 13, which was light, but enough for a tampon. It lasted about 5-6 days, but was mostly pantyliner light. (pre-pg I had pretty heavy, 7 day long periods). Now since then....I've still been spotting. Never a ton, but something in my underwear for about 2 straight weeks. I checked today and I could feel a string. I don't really have any pain.

Would you just keep waiting and watching? Or would you be concerned enough to consult a doctor? My nagging worry is colored by a friend who just had to have hers surgically extracted because it had migrated somewhat - the strings were still in place but the device had somehow done a 90 degree turn or something and was outside the uterus. She had experienced a long time of daily spotting and occasional cramping.

Thoughts?
I have told her to remove him from the playroom every time he does it, but it does not seem to be working and I am ready to pull my own hair out!! lol...any suggestions for other things to try?? I know when he is doing it at daycare the kids are screaming (which is understandable as I'm sure it hurts)but that is just giving him a reaction, and reinforcing it...I'm at a loss..

Yesterday we went to my childhood friend's parent's house for a fall party and hayrides. My friend grew up a mile away from us, and we lived in the county. Like "the" country, among the farms in rural SW Michigan. My graduating class was barely 70 kids. Being at her parent's farm house, riding through all of our old familiar county roads on the tractor pulled wagon, reminded me of how different Kate's upbringing will be from my own. I grew up with 85 acres of woods, dirt biking, horse riding, target shooting, going to tiny, old rural cemeteries to find the supposed "glowing" grave stone as entertainment on weekends. We now live in the suburbs, five minutes away from the downtown area of our city. Kate will go to public schools where there will be hundreds of kids in her class. There are pros and cons of each way of upbringing, but it was a reminder of how vastly different hers will be from mine. Just curious if your child will have a similar upbringing as you, or different, and your thoughts on it.

Hi Ladies, I have been very MIA (as you can tell by my very old pic of LO in my ticker!) but have been lurking. Must say I accidentally clicked on Aug 2013 and was surprised by all the drama! This place has always been great. ANYWAYS, the reason I'm writing. We have been TTC for #2. I full weaned in Sept and got my first PP period Sept 25th. I have no idea how long my cycle is or if this first one is out of whack. I am now a few days late and took a pregnancy test this morning but negative. What should I do? I'm feeling very in limbo with no period, but no pregnancy symptoms/neg test. Do I just wait a few more days and test again? Call gyno? Anyone go through this? I also live out of the country and the pregnancy test are those cheapy paper ones - not too sensitive, I think. Any advice would be very appreciated.TIA!

So I'm sure this has been discussed before! But DH and I just decded to visit his brother's family for Thanksgiving. We'd fly from Baltimore to Atlanta (about 2 hours direct flight), and then rent a car and drive another 2 hours.

So ...

1. To save money, I don't plan on buying DD a ticket. I can have her sit on our laps (since she's under two). We flew with DD once before when she was about 2-3 months old. And at that time I had no problem keeping her on my lap! She pretty much BFed the whole time! But now that she's active and walking I'm worried that I'm crazy to hold her on my lap for 2 hours! Even if it were around her BFing/nap time, I think she'd be more interested in all the people around her to BF or nap. Am I crazy to attempt to hold her for 2 hours?

2. If she refuses to BF during take off and landing, how can I make sure the pressure doesn't bother her ears?

3. What's the differance between checking the carseat at the gate versus checking it curbside? I plan to take one with us so I don't have to rent a nasty one at the car rental place. I'm thinking if I check at the gate, and there just happens to be an extra seat in our row, I may be able to put the seat on the plane. I'm worried about cheking curbsite because I don't want it tossed around alot on all their conveyor belts! I'm guessing if it were checked at the gate it wouldn't be tossed around as much?

Any advice would be apprechiated!

Hi ladies! Hope everyone is having a great weekend. :)

So, I don't care for the snacks that DD's daycare provides, so we send in our own. They do 3 snacks a day, and we usually send oatmeal or yogurt with fruit (or a Kashi cereal bar on days we're running late) for morning snack, a fruit, and a veggie, sometimes a cheese stick.

Fruits are pretty easy because they don't have to be cooked first, but I'm having a hard time coming up with easy veggie snacks. We do cucumbers pretty often, but I'm not sure what other veggies she can eat raw. Anyone know or have quick/ easy recipes that your kiddos like that would make good snacks?

Thanks!

DS is a horrible eater. He won't try new things ever. If I try to mix something in with his trusted Mac and cheese he will wipe it off the middle or throw the noodle out. He will eat almost any fruit, Mac and cheese, and yogurt. Other than that it's hit or miss. He will most if the time eat avacado and pancake or toast. He only will eat puréed veggies. He seriously refuses all other food. Help me please! I think the pedi might refer us to a speech therapist to help with the eating at his 15 month and I want to do it on our own. I give him food to try, let him play with it, let him feed me, but nothing works.

He's also not drinking enough. He has about 16oz of milk in his bottle morning and night and other than that doesn't even finish one sippy of water or diluted juice. What's up with my kid? He's always been picky with food. It's making meal time so hard.

My ds has been super clingy to me. Ever since he got sick back in august it's just been getting worse. He will wake up at night again now too just for snuggles. This weekend he woke up for milk and would not calm down until he got it and then he sucked it down. My question is does anyone have any ideas to get through this? I tried sending dh in last night but ds screamed until I went in and then he snuggled up and went back to sleep. He woke up three times last night with the last one at 3am asking for milk. I'm so tired and it's impacting my work. Any advice? Just a phase? CIO is not rally an option because he will wake the entire house screaming and since his febrile seizures I have to go in to check him because those fevers spike out of nowhere fast. I can't risk that by not checking on him. Thoughts?

So my 3 year old started preschool last month two days a week. She is usually pretty quiet around other kids, so we wanted her to have more opportunity to get comfortable in social settings.

On Tuesday, her teacher asked me to encourage her at home to be doing the songs and fingerplays at school. I was a little surprised because she has been singing the stuff at home, so it isn't that she doesn't know the words. That afternoon, DD told me she had had timeout, but she couldn't remember why. So today at drop off I asked. And the teacher told me the timeout was for not singing with the group!

This is on top of finding out yesterday that someone at the preschool or the church it is in forged my initials on a check for a book order. I wrote it to Scholastic, and someone crossed it out, made it out to the church, and wrote my initials by it. We already got the books, so I know they didn't pocket the money, but still. Talk about a breach of trust. DH is talking to the bank and church office about that.

I am fairly certain today will be her last day there, but I wanted to see what you ladies thought. Are we overreacting? Or is it just wise to pull her out of this place?

We saw it last night and OMG. At first I had no interest in this film because the movie Space Camp in the 80s still gives me a tension headache, and the trailer for Gravity called back that childhood trauma. It was worth it though.

The scene where she makes it into the airlock and slowly curls into the fetal position, floating there like an ultrasound photo, was my favorite. While the backstory about her daughter was heartbreaking, it was an interesting contrast between the fragility and resiliency of life (perhaps not the best theme for our dear bumpies presently struggling with child loss though). I will say the end got a little silly between the fire, near drowning by suit and again by seaweed and/or sinking parachute. DH and I were sure she would be eaten by a shark or run over by a jet ski! Whew!

They also left it open for a sequel where she survives the seemingly deserted land she found. All she needs is a lost volleyball named Wilson to float to shore. ;)

So I loved it. Your thoughts??
