My husband is always talking about how we should get a Roomba. We have a dog and 2 cats and both of us feel like we are always cleaning our floors. I've been considering getting him one for the holidays because I know he would like one. However, it doesn't seem like a very good gift because it's pretty much a vacuum. So, should I get it? The only other idea I had was a fire pit and I gave that idea to my Mom.

So we're dealing with a lot of hitting around our house. Mostly the dog, but us, too. I've been trying "gentle touches" but that doesn't seem to help. I'm trying time outs but I feel like I'd be putting him in and out of TO for the entire time we're together in the evenings. It's worse when he's tired/hungry, etc. He very clearly does it for attention. Like he'll hit the dog and then look at me and smile waiting for a reaction.

DH wants to spank him. Yesterday he popped him on the hand and then DS immediately hit me while looking at DH. Then DH got in an argument about appropriate discipline. I said it's silly to try to teach not to hit by hitting. It was very clear that DS was imitating DH in that one moment. DH says he needs to learn it hurts. DH promised not to use that tactic anymore, but it was more of a "Fine. You deal with it, then." kind of thing.

I'm almost positive the the only thing that is going to help this issue is time (it's a phase hopefully) and perhaps completely ignoring it. But, it doesn't seem fair to the dog to just let DS run around hitting him.

Thoughts?
I won't be around much during the week now that I started my new job (side note, I totally bawled my eyes out dropping T off this morning, and he acted like he didn't even notice I was gone when I picked him up--go figure). So this is a post and run.

I was thinking the other day when I was talking to my sister about some of my parenting regrets from the early months, think newborn to this time last year. Is there anything you wish you could have done differently? If there's going to be another one for you, what's the biggest thing you've learned in this last year that you'll use for the next one?
Mostly so they can get used to the dentist before problems arise, as she said they usually see cavities forming at around 23 months. I like my dentist, but I am wondering if a pediatric dentist is a better choice. My brother and I went to one until were in high school. Aside from the fact that they only treat kids, the office just seems more comfortable for a little one. The office that I go to looks like a spa. I can't imagine Kate in there, screaming through a dental exam as I am pretty certain she will. What are your plans?

For a few months now, he has been throwing major fits (mainly just with me). I have tried talking stern, redirecting, popping him on the butt, and holding him from behind and not talking (kind of like a time out) and talking nicely. Nothing seems to work. When he throws a fit, it is a huge fit. I'm talking stiffening his body, throwing his body back and to the sides, screaming, banging into things. Nothing calms him down, except for his paci...sometimes.

I understand that at 15 months, he is still learning how to control his world and his emotions, but something has to give.
I made a thread yay.

How was your weekend?

I want to tell/update y'all about the Game of Thrones skit was asked to do for a birthday video (I mentioned before we were suppose to be the Khal and Khaleesi of the Dothraki). We had until yesterday and boy did we procrastinate. I had no idea how to pull this out of my ass!

I started scrambling around for props at about 5pm. I looked for my blonde Halloween wig I had that would be perfect for an hour until I finally remembered it was in a shoe box. Thank goodness, it would have been terrible without it, especially with DH in a dark wig and awesome getup he created in about 10 minutes (dude does instant costume like a boss). We decided B couldn't be in it because when we were wearing our wigs she cried hardcore, like her parents had vanished, so we used gourds as dragon eggs in the scene instead. She went to bed and DH set up a quite elaborate backdrop and I wrote a 43 second script. I blended GoT with Pitch Perfect and talked about the Iron Throne like it was a singing competition. Imagine Dany sounding like Chloe pretending to be Aubrey. Nailed it!

What's the silliest thing you've done with your family?

Don't put Elijah in bed yet. I know he's crying and rubbing his eyes and laying down on the floor with his blankie, but he's just going to fight it as soon as you lay him down. Better yet, lay him down and forget your normal 10 minute check-ins. He'll sit up by the time you reach the door and undo all the tucking in. Also, that fresh sheet you put on his bed? Yeah, he scratched his eczema cheek that was finally 75% healed, ripped open the skin, and proceeded to rub it on the sheet, so yay for more bloodstains and scabs the day before his dermatologist visit! Oh, and that nap you needed? Forget it. By the time he goes to sleep (which still hasn't happened), you'll be too awake to go to sleep and will spend naptime listening to NCIS with your eyes closed while Dipshit Magoo yells at his blanket and rubs his head against the crib slats. Because yes, at this moment, you refer to your child as Dipshit Magoo.

In other words, roll over on the couch, doze for about an hour, and let him do his thing.
My furry baby had a nose bleed at the groomer today. They said it was not gushing and stopped in a couple minutes. My dh told me she face planted off the bed this morning. And it's been cold here lately and my nose bleeds a little with dry cold air. She is acting normal but google is scaring me. I don't mean to sound like a mean doggy mommy but I don't have the time from work or the money to take her to the vet for no reason. Anyone have experience with this? I plan to observe her and if she has another nose bleed call the vet.
