Holy $#!+ guess what!!! I went for my high risk appointment today (37+3), and due to high blood pressure and excessive protein levels, I was informed that I'm having a baby this upcoming Monday! I come in at 6:00 AM for an ultrasound. If LO is still breech, they'll proceed with a c-section. If he's flipped, they'll induce labor with pitocin and whatever else (fx)! ANYWAYS, if you've had experience with either, could you tell me how your morning/day went? What process and procedures did you go through? Were you allowed to eat the night/morning? I'm so excited!

I didn't know my baby was breech until her foot dropped from my cervix. I was induced and about 4 cm. I was scared and upset b/c I wasn't prepared for one. I asked my OB for a follow up ultrasound weeks before my water broke. He said he didn't think there was a need baby is healthy etc. I feel if we knew she was breech. We could have turned her and avoided a C-section, maybe?? Not real happy with my OB.

Just curious if there are any other teachers out there that are still working? It is getting TOUGH to be on my feet as much as I need to be! I feel like with most jobs you can get away with sitting down, but it is hard to control 30 junior high students at a time with your feet up on your desk! Luckily, they have been super sweet, but, sheesh, I don't know if I can make it two and a half more weeks.

If you are teaching, are you planning on working up until your due date? My date is 4/23, which is a Saturday, and my current plan is to work up until 4/22, but I'm not so sure how it's going to work out. That leaves me with five weeks until summer break. As of today, my stomach cramps up every time I walk too many steps! The more I'm on my feet, the worse it is. . . Not to mention my ankles and feet. . . I'm wondering if it would be dumb to take off the week before and get a full six weeks of leave. At the same time, I don't want to be stuck at home with nothing to do other than wait for little guy to make his arrival!

so my mom just had surgery the other day. She had a bowel rupture a few months ago and had to have a colostomy, and they just did surgery to put everything back and undo the colostomy. I talked to my mom and told her I probably wouldn't be up to the hospital to visit because I was nervous bringing DS with me, he's 3 weeks old, because of the potential germs and sick people in the hospital. I'm not pumping yet and don't really feel comfortable being away from him for extended periods in case he gets hungry. Now my grandma is guilting me about not visiting, especially since I don't like bringing LO over to my mom's house since she smokes inside, and my mom won't be out and about for awhile after she gets home from the hospital most likely. Any opinions on whether it would be be a bad idea to being LO to visit my mom in the hospital? I definitely want to put his safety first since he's so new and little, so I'm thinking I'm not going to go just to be safe, but I just thought I'd see what other people's opinions were.

AHHH I'm SO ready now and she said that my baby boy is already 7 1/2 lbs and in the 80th percentile. Did anyone else's doctor say this and the baby ended up coming early? Also, is it weird if I ask her at my appt tomorrow if we can induce if he is not here by the 27th? My entire body hurts and I'm having horrible contractions & pain in the afternoon, evening, and all through the night, plus have some substantial swelling in my ankles & feet.

Hi Moms!
Hoping to get some advice. Our due date was last Saturday the 9th. I began feeling contractions early that morning, and started monitoring them after a few hours around 5 am. They were getting closer, they were frequent, and consistent but never got very painful. I didn't realize at the time, but when I changed position they slowed down. Went to hospital around 6 pm, and was sent home at 85% thinned and 2 cm dilated. Low and behold, Sunday I felt almost nothing leading me to believe I had experienced false labor. I think I never really considered false labor the day before because I was just so excited.

Late Sunday night I started experiencing sharp pains in my lower abdomen/pelvic area that were extremely painful. Told our doctor about pains Monday at our appointment. Although I did not really think they were contractions (they were irregular and were not increasing in intensity), I felt they were something significant due to how painful they were. My doctor did not even examine me, telling me I probably had not progressed since I saw him Saturday evening. He told me the pains were due to the baby being so low (they have been telling me that baby is very low for the past couple of weeks) putting pressure on my bladder and pelvic bone. All last night and this morning I again had the pains. They are extremely painful! But then I think I was also having contractions. Throughout all of this I have also been having the bloody show and loss of plug.

That was long, but I am just having a hard time distinguishing everything. Could they be contractions? I guess it could be both pressure and contractions? If not contractions could it be signaling something bad (can the baby be distressed so low?)? Would pelvic pressure come in waves and be so painful? I am just so confused, and feel brushed off by my doctor and hospital.

Thank you for any advice in advance

I'm 37 weeks, FTM, and at my most recent appointment, my doctor stated that at my appointment next week, he'll do my first cervical check and he also might sweep my membranes to "get things moving". He didn't explain what sweeping membranes was or why and I was kind of caught off guard by the "get things moving" comment, so I didn't ask for details and just looked it up online when I got home. It seems like it's not uncommon to do at 38 weeks, although most of the posts I see about it tend to have a reason behind them (baby is measuring large, or a previous pregnancy was really overdue, etc.) Baby is measuring right on track and I haven't had any complications thus far. Anyway, I'm just wondering if someone can tell me a little more about why it is done at 38 weeks if everything's going planned? I know it's full-term and if DD decides that it's time, it's time, but I just don't understand why they would use a method of induction 2 weeks early.

Thanks!

I couldn't sleep or shower through them so that what made me go. They had me walk an hour because they figured it was active labor and wanted to see if i would make any further progress. I didnt so I ended up getting sent home.
Going to try intercourse this afternoon and more walking. I have a OB appointment tomorrow and if i have progressed they will admin me!

I will say it got contractions going, i dilated from 2 cm to 3 cm and went form 50% effaced to 100%. They said they could feel the baby's head and the amniotic sack. Just wish my water would break...

The castor oil did not taste bad at all. I got a tasteless/odorless one from Walmart. Took 3 tablespoons mixed it with a shot or orange juice so it didnt feel all slimy going down and chased it with a 12 oz glass of orange juice and didnt taste or smell a thing!

(Negative comments? Please do not comment. Im not the one and would hate to get ugly on here!)

So.. I've done a ton of Googling and whatnot, but I wanted to hear from REAL people. At my growth scan at 36+6, baby was sitting breech. What I thought was his butt in my ribs turned out to be his head. I get another scan this Friday to check if he's turned before a c-section date is set, but I was told not to get my hopes up. Have any of you had breech babies that flipped this far along? Or was yours completely set by this stage? Anything you've heard to successfully turn them OTHER than a version or a chiropractor?

Congrats to those who have already birthed their babies! But for those of us still waiting for labor to start - please share- what do you think has worked for you in the past to naturally start labor? What did not work? I'm a total lurker and never post, but I'm getting so anxious! Our first baby I had at 37 weeks bc my water broke (and I was 2cm dilated and 80% effaced at only 36 weeks) - I'm currently 37w4d and was not dilated at all at my last appt....and I'm just wondering what more I can do to get things moving. I have been walking on the treadmill daily and bouncing/hip rolls etc on a birthing ball.

I'm a FTM and in all the issues I worried about during pregnancy it never occurred to me that my LO wouldn't want to eat! He was born at 6lb 7oz and is one week old today (he was born at 37+4) and is down to 5lb 15oz. We are really struggling with getting him to eat. We are attempting BFing but he is so impatient that if the milk doesn't come immediately he unlatches. He just wasn't taking the breast at all in the hospital so the LC finally got me to start pumping. I'm making TONS of milk but even with a bottle he still eats very little.

His pediatrician wants him to get at least 1iz every 2-3 hours but we really have to work hard to get him to take between 15-25ml at each feeding. We've only gotten one whole ounce in at a handful of feedings. We're waking him up every 2 hours to feed even at night but still no weight gain. We're exhausted and don't know what else we can do.

Anyone else have experience with a LO with a bad appetite?

I've already passed one stone (they believe...there was evidence in my urinalysis from Monday's OB appt) but they don't know if that was the only one.

This stinks. I'm terrified I'll be dealing with kidney stones + labor. We were home and tucked into our beds 6 hours after he was born. The last 3 days have been very special but now we are sitting at the children's hospital waiting to be admitted. He has jaundice bad enough to need to be treated with phototherapy. I know a 24-48 hour hospital stay isn't the end of the world but man this sucks. Also, since my parents had my 2 year old last night this makes it the longest time I have been away from him. I feel bad and miss him too.

But there is so much good info on here, I thought I'd try to participate more.

So! I'm mid-thirties, married, work in mental health when not on maternity leave. I have a 23 month old son and my second son was born 3/30, at 9 lbs 3 oz. I had a kind of accidental med free birth with LO2 as when I got to the hospital they said I was far enough along that I'd have the baby within 2 hours, and they were right (got to triage around 5:15, baby came at 7:15). The recovery has been easier compared to my epidural birth with LO1 but no lie, those were a very painful 2 hours and I was literally screaming curse words towards the end. I had done zero mental prep for a med free birth, tho, so there's that. Had an episiotomy with LO1 and tore along the incision with LO2 but the swelling and stitches pain has been super minimal this time. I have been tempted to pick my clingy toddler up a bunch as a result, but am trying not to.

That's all I can think of at the moment! Sorry for the novel, and hopefully you'll see me chiming in more now!

For those of you who have been induced or are being induced. I figured this would be a good place for those who haven't to asked questions and for those who have that need a refresher or any good advice!
