what age for tricycle/big wheel?

evidently, DD is showing interest in tricycles/bikes/big wheels that the kids have in my moms neighborhood.  i guess she has gone and sat on trikes a few times.  obviously, she doesnt know what to do yet, but i am sure the day is not far off.  so what age for this type of thing are you guys thinking? like a trike, or my mom says she had seen like a "my first big wheel" or something...thanks!

Re: what age for tricycle/big wheel?

  • My DD just received one for her 1st birthday. It is a big wheel that has a push bar. So she can sit on it and you can push it. The bar also folds under the big wheel so that you can use it like a rocker. My friend's son got one for his 1st birthday as well and is now 3 and still using it. I think it cost about $40/50 at ToysRUs. Well worth it if she can really use it for that long though.
  • MIL got DS "my first big wheel." The box says it's for ages 1-3, it's smaller than a regular big wheel, but still has pedals and no push bar. We haven't gotten it out of the box yet to try it, but I doubt DS would know how to pedal it.

  • We have a big wheel.  He can't reach the peddles, but he scoots himself around with his feet and loves it.
