Thank you all for your kind thoughts. I got my numbers back this morning. My HCG decreased from Wednesday to Friday from 57 to 46, and my progesterone was only at 1.3. I'm thankful that my body told me what was going on this weekend before getting my numbers back so I wasn't hopeful all weekend only to be crushed today.
Question for anyone who has gone through this before: Does the low progesterone level just go hand in hand with a low HCG number, or could the miscarriage have been caused by the low progesterone? Not sure which comes first? I have a 16-month-old son and while I did not have my progesterone levels checked throughout my pregnancy with him, I did have a healthy pregnancy. Is it possible for progesterone issues to change from one pregnancy to another, or to develop those issues later on? I have a longer than normal cycle (usually 29-34 days) with a 11 to 12 day luteal phase, so I don't seem to have many of the low progesterone symptoms.
I will be asking my doctor these questions later today, but any insight you might be able to provide would be helpful.
@jen83mn It sounds like you may have experienced a chemical pregnancy so the numbers would go hand in hand. I experienced a CP last October. I am so sorry for your loss.
Thank you! I've been doing quite a bit of reading and it does appear to be a chemical pregnancy considering the early timing and low HCG levels. Thank you for reaching out! Wishing you the best in this pregnancy! I know it will be so hard the next time I'm pregnant not to imagine the worst happening after this, but hopefully in the end, everything will work out.
@jen83mn i asked this exact question with my last MC and the dr said that's hard to tell if they didn't test your progesterone before the bleeding started. Usually with a mc your progesterone is the first to decline which is typically what triggers your body to start the process.
Thank you! My doctor later today said the same thing ... that my progesterone was probably low due to it not being a viable pregnancy. She said when I get pregnant again to come in right away for HCG and progesterone testing, and if my HCG levels are high and in the normal range and my progesterone is really low, they could start me on progesterone suppositories then if needed.
Just got my lab work back from yesterday at my HCG is 1156 and Progesterone is 19.1. My doctor's quote is, "very reassuring!" Repeat labs tomorrow just to check, but as my doctor said, I'm "definitely pregnant!"

@mcdoug211 if you get pregnant with no problems they don't test hcg normally. They do it if you have a history of miscarriage or if you had to go to a fertility clinic to get pregnant they moniter your hcg and when they determine you are having a viable pregnancy they release you to your regular ob.
Ok, just got my lab results from yesterday back. My HCG more than doubled (yay!) but I noticed they didn't check the progesterone again which was 19.1 on Monday. I wonder if my doctor didn't run it again since she thought it was a fine number before? Hmm...

@jen83mn I had a chemical pregnancy 2 years ago and then one month later got pregnant again and delivered an amazing baby boy! It is very common and has no bearing on future pregnancy. I remember feeling scared during my second pregnancy because of what previously happened but there was nothing to worry about. Things just happen sometimes. Best of luck!!
Thank you for the comforting words! I think that's what terrified me the most ... that it would impact my ability to have a baby in the future when we start trying again. But after talking to many of my friends who have suffered losses but gone on to have healthy kiddos after, I feel much more hopeful about the situation. I still have bad days, but most days I'm able to look on the positive side and have hope that next time around things will be different. That's not to say I won't be a nervous wreck next time the entire first trimester, but I'm willing to go through that if it brings me my rainbow baby
