Why do I have points under my profile picture?

It's been almost a year since I have been on here. What are all of the changes? What are these points? Points towards what?

    I actually asked this the other day--apparently the more people respond to your posts and the more threads you begin, the more points you earn.  After that it's a little cloudy.

    Isn't there a bump store?  Can they be used for something on there?  That would be silly though cause then ppl would just have to post a lot to get free stuff.  Hmmm...just pondering out loud.
