I'm with you, brandons. My different books say to brush/rub baby's teeth after they come in, so that milk or formula doesn't sit behind them and cause decay. Before that... nothing's mentioned.
I work with a former dentist and he suggests using a wet washcloth. The purpose of this is to keep the bacteria from growing. It is the bacteria that cause the gums to hurt during teething.

It's a rubber finger brush, they sell them pretty much at any babystore. Feels good on their gums. Works for DD better than a washcloth.
