Ganirelix?

So I'm hoping some of the veterans here will be able to help me out with some Ganirelix questions. Yesterday, I had a monitoring ultrasound and I have two follicles on one side measuring 11mm and 16 less than 10mm on both sides.

My nurse had me add the ganirelix yesterday but I only have 4 prefilled syringes so I assume that most people only take it for 4 days. Does that sound right? I was anticipating my egg retrieval would be between 11-14 January which isn't until Saturday (more than 3 days away).

ETA: Yesterday was day 6 of stims for me.

I'm a poor responder so on my last cycle, I started on day 9 of stims and needed 7 ( I stimmed for 14.5 days). You'll stop on when you stop stims.

I am currently on Lupron for down regulation, but will start ganirelix Thursday, the day of my baseline. Many women on here don't start taking it until after they start stimming.

I took ganirelix for 14 days last cycle. Ganirelix is usually taken one of two ways, either the entire ppre-filled syringe or by splitting the syringe and taking a half dose.

For my IVF cycle I used five ganirelix doses (full needle). Then for my FET immediately after I used it for something like nine days to fully suppress an ovulation. There is a high chance you'll need to order more. Talk to your REs office to see if they think you'll need more.

I had ganirelix added in on day 5 of stims last time. Not sure what my follie sizes were cause the system isn't working at the moment. But they had only ordered me 5 of them and on the morning of day 10 I went in for monitoring and had to get an extra from the office in case I needed to do another that night....once it was added in I had to keep taking it till it was time to trigger. I actually ended up triggering that night instead and gave it back to them...but I did almost not have enough. Hopefully they have an emergency stash in your office as well???

I started the ganirelix as soon as I had a follicle at 12 and used it for 5 days. I only had 5 doses and the nurse ordered me more on day 4 just to be safe. I would really think they have a few emergency doses on hand.

I did Ganirelix for 3 days before starting stims and then I'll start it again everyday once my follies are large enough until trigger. I started with 11 doses. I would guess that you are probably going to need more.

@missmarypoppins Thanks so much for your response. My follicles were at 11 yesterday I was worried about using the Ganirelex too early.

If I have to buy more, I have to buy more. The cost for the meds is insignificant related to the cost of the cycle.

They only wrote me a prescription for 5 syringes of Ganirelix, and ended up giving me a refill. I took it for 7 days total. ETA: They started me on it of Day 6 of stimming, and all of my follicles were under 10mm.

@Sunny B thanks for the response... Most posts I read online had people start taking it when they already had follicles at 14 or so. I was getting worried I was starting too early.

My RE basically bumped up my Gonal F the day he started Ganirelix, so I think he did it preventatively, because he wasn't sure how the increase in meds would impact things and he didn't want me to ovulate!!!

Also, from what I read at the time, it is pretty common to start Ganirelix on Day 6 regardless.

And if this helps- I stimmed for 11 days, trigger on Day 11, and ER on Day 13. My follicles were all around 16-18 at that time. I had a big jump days 8-10.

Thanks so much for the info! I'm so stressed about my follicles and whether or not we will get any "normal" embryos.

It's not letting me edit- and I wanted to put a mm after 16-18.

I wanted to add something else. It seems like we have a lot of similarities. They retrieved 18 from me and it sounds like were at similar growth on Day 5-6! What's your E2?

E2 was 259 yesterday... I would love to get 18!

I would say that sounds about right. They usually start ganirelix when the largest is around 12mm. Mine was started VERY late because my follies grow fast and not started until the largest was 16mm and I ultimately Oed early.
